Scraping And Whinning Noise From Front Right Side Of Motor

I have a 2000 NISSAN MAXIMA when I start car it has a spinning or grinding and a scraping noise coming from front of car by the belts on the passenger side what could this be I had pulley tensioner changed and it still happens when I start car and when I drive plus when I drive for about 20mins I smell a faint rubber smell . Thanks

Did you inspect the belts? Look under the hood when the sound is happening. Jack the car up, take off the tire and start the car. Look exactly where the noise is coming from. Pulley or belt maybe?

My belts were checked to see if they need it to be replaced and for the tension . It has a loud whine sound and spinning and then the sound of metal scraping soon as I start the car. Is the pulley hard to check and what would be checked for the pulley? Thanks

I have never experienced this problem. But my first step would be taking off the wheel and starting the car and finding exactly where the noise is coming from. Maybe even record it so someone can chime in and give an answer.

^ A good suggestion.

If you just had work done to the car to fix this, or if you had work done and this is happening SINCE the work was done, then just take it back to the shop that did it and make them fix it...and post back if you have problems or need more advice.

A video and more info will help if you want us to diagnose this problem for you though.

By more info, fill this out, just leave out your personal information, VIN number, that stuff isn't important.

i'm having the same problem right now. it might be your ac compressor. i know mine is bad. and scraping. sounds awful and embarrassing! I don't have money for a compressor right now so I was going to take the compressor out. what belt have people used when deleting the ac compressor? any part numbers?

Hi supra1008 ..it was my ac compressor my son put on another shorter serpentine belt by passing the ac..no longer have that sound. yes it was embarrassing! A OK now...I was told it would be about maybe $2000 to fix or $700 for a rebuilded ac..but another mechanic told him easy fix when ready it is probably the clutch and or bearing in ac..not a hard job.. so my son said he can do it!! hope this helps you Good Luck .
