Check Engine Light

my check engine light came on can anyone tell me wha the problem is??

P0420
P0450

my car is a 2000 maxima gle automatic

P0420: Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)


P0450: Evaporative Emission Control System Pressure Sensor Malfunction




As for the 420 code, im going to guess you need to replace your bank 1 sensor 1 oxygen sensor (front sensor, close to firewall)

As for the 450 code, im going to guess you will have to replace your charcoal canister and the valve (under rear bumper on the drivers side)

there is always a possibility, but those are pretty solid estimates of whats wrong... I've dealt with both of those codes and those are the parts i had to deal with...


Before you do anything else, what mileage do you have on your car?

with that kind of mileage you can anticipate that the rest of your O2 sensors will be giving a code soon(if they have never been changed). If its not broke don't fix it by all means but just save a few hundred so you'll be ready.
