In light of this : http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...ml#post8459641

My last step is too try and replace the ECU. I have a 95 maxim gle auto federal emissions

My car was build 9/94 in Japan vin number jn1ca21d8st062936
All the ones I found on the web say either 12/94 or 5/95 for the replacement ecu's.

Send a pm to Maxima Joe here on the org. He has a lot of parts, maybe he has an ECU.

There are places that repair ECUs, google for them. Here is one that google returned.

http://aesmodules.com/AES_Automotive...ions_Main.html. A lot of these places have a one day turn around.

I was looking at the Nissan parts manual to see what dates an ECU was used. Cars made from 06/1994 to 09/1994 used one ECU (23710-40U12) and cars from 09/1994 to 12/1994 used another (23710-40U13). This turned out to be of no help as both ECUs list 09/1994 - your car.

Another website that lists parts says the 09/1994 to 12/1994 (23710-40U13) can be used in place of the 06/1994 to 09/1994 one.

So I went to a third website that lets you use the car's vin to verify fit. And that's where it got interesting. When I used your vin number on the above part numbers, neither of them were for your car. That web site says the vin number you posted is for a Calif emissions car. Just running with that, ECU part number 23710-41U12 (06/1994 to 09/1994) would be a fit. It also says that part number 23710-41U13 (09/1994 to 12/1994) would also fit.

So 2 websites say that a 09/1994 manufactured car can use either of the ECUs made between 06/1994 to 12/1994. But beware of 12/1994. There are 2 other ECUs used from 12/1994 to 05/1995 (23710-41U14 & 23710-41U15) that are not for your car.

But you have a real important fact to verify. Is your car Fed or Cali emissions?

Under the hood is an aluminum plate on the firewall, passenger side. This plate also has the car's VIN on it (check that it matches the one on the dash), but below that is an ID #. Look at the 12th character from the left.

Example:
Code:
ID# - B LH U L E A A32 E V A
      | | | |
      | | | |
      | | | N-Canada
      | | | U-USA non Calif
      | | | V-USA Calif emissions
      | | |
      | | A-4 speed automatic transaxle
      | | F-5 speed manual transaxle
      | |
      | E-(MAX) GXE in USA, GXE & GLE in Canada
      | G-(MAX) GLE in USA
      | V-(MAX) SE
      | H-(I30) Luxury pack & base 4 A/T

Aug man,

you should be able to find a 95 ECU no problem man from the junkyard.

Luke95gxe might have a spare ECU. I know someone on the org has one.

I read your other thread and I hope your problem is solved. But this Fed car/Cali car thing is not over.

All 4th gen Maximas were built in Japan and shipped all over the world. Nissan built them to meet the local laws of the area that they were shipped to. My 97 was bought brand new in Texas and it is a Cali car. So the fact you bought your car in Boston doesn't guarantee that it is a Fed spec car. Since the VIN for you car says it is Cali spec, check that plate under the hood and verify. Don't assume that just because you bought it in Boston....
