Manual to Digital Climate Write-Up (pre-swap)

Well, this appears to be my very first thread created in the 5th Gen section. I am a new to the generation- this Saturday 6/9 will be my second week of owning my new to me 2002 SE 6spd.

Sadly the car has a manual climate control and it bothers me. I KNOW that the question of whether it's possible or not to swap digital into a manual climate Max gets asked frequently so I took a different approach and hope this thread gets OK acceptance. I am trying to bring myself to swap climate controls after a buddy's intense persuasion and willingness to help. I have not done the swap (obviously) yet or ever but I just spent the last 45 minutes doing a bit of research with the FSM and have noted some stuff I'd like to share as well as perhaps get contribution on from members who are more knowledgeable than myself in this aspect. Please feel free to edit the images with paint and re-upload if you know something I don't or simply missed highlighting.

Since the car is still so new to me, I have not ripped anything apart yet nor do I even have the parts although my friend claims to have everything I need to do the swap. If anyone cares enough to add step by instructions on dash and relevant interior component removal.

So far known items needed for swap based on a quick search and found on existing threads- verification needed btw..

1. Climate Control Module
2. 10+ ft worth of harness(es)
3. In-vehicle sensor
4. Ambient Sensor
5. Intake Sensor
6. ANYTHING MISSING?

this is hands down a monumental PITA! good luck with the swap. This is something I've never seen anybody achieve, hopefully somebody with more knowledge steps in with some sort of input, once again GL!

Good luck. I haven't seen it done before, only talk about how much the time wasn't worth it. It really looks like you've got your stuff together to accomplish it though.

Yea I agree, I dont think I've ever seen anyone actually pull it off nor do I think its worth the trouble BUT my friend is very insistent on doing it and honestly he's kind of making me think positive especially since I've never had a digital climate vehicle

Man.. I'm unemployed right now, all I really need is a 2002-03 in stock at my local junk yard. Time is all I have right now! lol

Anyone care to donate components towards a good cause which would benefit the 5th Generation Maxima Research and Development department for optionless Maximas? I'll document every single step with pictures and video as well as clear instructions, making this a nice sticky

Very excited, there's finally a 2002 SE fully loaded at the junk yard and I'm going to go raid that bish and grab as many harnesses and sensors while I can! it's a shame its a tan interior and not black since I have to remove dash anyway. I hope I can get everything I need this week and hopefully get this swap complete before the end of Summer.

Has anyone out there tried yet? or have any knowledge to share regarding the swap?

Small update for those of you who are actually interested. That same Saturday after posting the last message, I went to the junk yard with two fellow ORGers and dismantled the crap out of a 2002 Maxima that had an engine fire. I took some pictures and managed to get some of the stuff for the swap. Unfortunately the fire made it through the firewall and melted a lot of the wires under the dash on the passenger side I learned a lot since I've never taken a 5th gen apart. Next time I'll be able to dismantle that thing in a fraction of the time!
