Starting car after 4 months: damage prevention?
Starting car after 4 months: damage prevention?
So, it all started back in February...
Spark plug change led to valve cover change led to etc. etc.
About that time life got crazy, and since it is just now dying down a bit, the Max is finally about buttoned up.
However, I wasn't planning on the car being down for so long, so I didn't take any special precautions to begin with. The gas tank is pretty full, and the oil was relatively new th elast time it was cranked, but I'm getting a bit worried about cranking it back up without doing damage.
I was literally staring down the intake ports through the valves into the cylinders last week, and there is at least a film of oil on the surfaces that I could see, but I've heard horror stories about starting cars after sitting for a while and screwing up some unlubricated bearing etc.
What, if anything, can I do at this point to reduce the risk of damage when I crank it up?
Thanks!

It hasn't sat long enough to matter *awaits conflicting next comment*
. Gas should be fine and considering the blocks are aluminum there shouldn't be any corrosion issues (not sure if the rings will rust if you let water in there, I hope it's inside and dry haha).

OP, you're good to go. The only thing you might hear is the lifters getting pumped up the first few seconds the engine fires up, but don't worry about that.
check ur oil level before u start it up, if it is just below the full line, top it off to the full line and fire it up, i would let it sit for at least 15 minutes before revving it though, it might start a little rough but once gas gets flowing and oil pumped up it should be good
Well that all sounds promising! I was planning on changing the oil anyway before I cranked it, so it will be full. Also, opinions on cranking the engine minus combustion for the first 30 seconds or so to get oil moved around? Heard that our cars cut off ignition if you full throttle while cranking; true? Just pedal to floor plus turn ignition key? Otherwise pull a fuse for the fuel pump I suppose...
Thanks for the feedback!

Well, changed the oil, cranked w/ no fuel for about 30 seconds, paused, cranked for real.
Started up, immediately, no knocking, scraping, shuddering, bad scraping sounds.
Just nice and smooooth!!
Thanks everyone!
