cell phone charger hot!!! burning plastic smell.

thought i had a plastic bag stuck to the exhaust, still might. when i went to unplug the phone, i noticed it was hot, i touched the tip of the charger and it was so hot i burnt my frickin finger. i noticed the rubber had come apart from the cord at the tip, but the wire was fine. faulty charger or maybe the lighter socket itself??? ideas??

did you leave it plugged in for an extended period of time? Say a few hours while charging the phone? Ive left an OE Motorola charger plugged in and charging my phone for a 4 hour trip...it was hot as ***** afterwards

radioshack sells a car charger that you can use with any phone you just buy a new tip when you get a new phone. Very nice looking too and has a classy blue light to it. Look into it

"OEM" applies to all consumer electronics and computers, just as it does with cars.

Its just the charger. I have had chargers get so hot it burned through plastic housing.

just replace it.

The cigaretter lighter circuit has a fuse so i doubt the circuit is the problem.
