2004+ Maxima rotor hat ebrake for Z32 rear conversion?
2004+ Maxima rotor hat ebrake for Z32 rear conversion?
Has anyone looked into this? Getting ready to put my front FB kit tomorrow or over the weekend, but really want to get the rear installed soon - of course, there's that pesky e-brake issue...
I've looked at all the cable operated e-brake options and would rather attempt one of the drum style that fit in the rotor hat. Seem the aftermarket e-brake calipers aren't the greatest since they are floaters and have a tendency to hang up/drag.
Just started digging through this with the drum style, but there aren't any 04+ in our pick and pulls so it's tough to do any recon. I thought maybe a Z32 e-brake would be the ticket, but with it being on the drive axle, I figured it would likely be less of an option than a similar setup for a front drive car.
Has anyone gone down this road already?

Got my Fastbrakes BBK on today. Important tip, bleeder screw at the top!!
Found a 2006 Altima (uses same e-brake as the newer Maximas) in a local pic-n-pull, going to check it out next week and see if I can pillage the e-brakes.
Looking at 350z rear rotors for this setup. It will fit under 17" wheels (I have 2004 SL 17's and the Fastbrakes Z32 Front BBK fits with all sorts of room to spare)

I made a kit years ago that mounted Z32 rear brakes on 4th and 5th gens...

out of the first round of 10 kits I made, I sold 4 of them in about 3 years. That was 7 years ago, and the remainder of the parts have all gone away. I think only 2 or 3 of those kits were ever installed..
anyway, you can't just bolt up the Z32 or Altima parts. they just don't fit since both cars had independent rear suspension and a completely different hub/axle design. square peg, round hole basically.
I custom made a backing plate to hold everything, then modified the ebrake mechanism and attached that to the rear axle with a pile of custom hardware.
It took about $500 in custom-machined parts and hardware, and brake parts from 3 different cars to make it all work.
It's possible, I did it and it worked, but it was a PITA.
