transmission or not

Hello everyone,

Always a reader first time poster. Lets get to the point yesterday, i drove my car (97 nissan maxima se auto trans.) to McDonalds and park it went about my business when i came back to my car it started fine and when i shift to reverse it stalls. Start it up again and try putting it into drive stalls again, car's going no where. So i came home to get my cruiser to tow the car, when i got back there with a buddy i told him to get into the car and start it up and i'll push it a little so we could hook it up to the truck when all of a sudden the car started driving normal again. I'm thinking TC lock-up maybe wrong so that's why i need your inputs. thanks

rob.

will it hold idle? sounds like youve got a bad vacuum leak or you need a new MAF. personally i dont think its in the transmission

if it stays running while in park. try warming it up to operating temp then shift to R or D. if it still dies then start it and go directly to N then kick it in D or R without your foot on the brake. it shouldnt die if its stuck in lockup but it will be really sluggish.

fluid level and condition?
