heat has stopped working + engine running warm

I've searched around and everyone else has seemed to have a little bit of a different situation then mine so I figured I'd start a quick thread.

A few days ago I was driving home, heat blasting and working well, and towards the end of my 20 minute drive I noticed it stopped blowing hot. Now, most of the time, it refuses to blow hot air. I have a manual climate control and no combination of how hot I set it to/if the air circulation button is in or out/where it's blowing out of makes it blow hot air, except for very intermittent times where it randomly decides to blow semi-warm air.

I've also noticed my engine temperature sensor has been on the higher side of halfway, and even getting up to the warning line on the high side, which I have never seen before. When that happens I turn the air on full blast and it goes down after a few seconds.

I was just wondering if anyone had any troubleshooting ideas for me, I'm thinking thermostat but don't really know too much about heating systems like that.

Any suggestions would help, thanks guys

You most likely need to add coolant in the radiator. No heat from the heater is the first sign that you are low. When the engine is cold and not running, remove the radiator cap and look in there. The coolant should be all the way to the top, no air space. When you add coolant, also make sure that the overflow tank has coolant in it.

Umm...when the engine has cooled down and is turned off buddy. Not when car is warm you want to unscrew radiator cap. You will get seriously burned...

if it is full when cooled off could be a thermostat sticking or a bad heater core...my heater core was crapping on me so i took both my heater core hoses off and just made a short one to re-rout my heater core hoses so i could by pass it and after that she ran cooler and yes i had no heat but it was 110 out side..heat wasent a need at the time lol
