gad damn water pump...

I see a lot of people have been posting but I could not find any reference to this one...

We got the old pump out without TOO much trouble... but getting it back in, whole other story...

New, not rebuilt pump, new seals... assembled and lubed... pump goes in ok UP TO A POINT... the chain is out of the way, not an issue... but the pump will just not go into place far enough...

Now, the pump I got was a gmb at advance auto... only place in town who had one instock... needed to fix asap... only car, and it been up and out for 3 days now ... been trying to a couple of things at once... and now I'm stuck with this... I'm afraid to pry on it, or use the bolts to pull it in...

Anyone else ever had this issue? Any ideas. I need to get this fixed like yesterday...

PLEASE HELP!!!!

Ok... lesson learned about the local parts. Damn store subbed out different brand... dunno if the gmb would've been better, but due to a design issue, it would not fit - period... for grins, we took off the seals and just slid the new pump in, still wouldn't go in all the way. Had a little over 1/8" space...

So we put the seals on the OLD pump and it slid right in like its supposed to...

Due to financial constraints, and fact the old pump was still working - was just the rear side coolant seal leaking, just put the new seals on, and returned the crappy pump for refund...

Knowing now the fitment issue, I don't even find the job that bad to do... as long as the damn parts fit right.. ARGH!!!!!

Very smart man and you did your homework on the forums here. Pmohr had mentioned that the pumps are usually always good as long as there is no play in it. Used the new seals and put back in and it works. Let us know in the future when it starts back leaking..

Will do.. before any major sugery, I try and prep and search for everything to have a feel for what to expect..

I bet there's still a writeup I wrote in the 1/2 gen forum on rebuilding the rear brake calipers... no one had tried it before...

Didn't want to start new post for water pump issue. I over torqued top bolt and snapped it off. I can't get fit drill in between TC and Frame. Can you lift engine with jack by using 2x4 and jack on cross member? Should I get hoist and lift it up four inches so bolt hole is above frame and I can use drill out set to get broken bolt out of block. Would it be easier if I took off timing chain cover?

You might want to start a new thread. I doubt anyone sees it in here. I'm really not sure of the solution.

I understand that - but you obviously missed the point where I mentioned I was on a SERIOUSLY tight budget - as in NON existent... I am only able to find PT work, and still benefiting from unemployment due to this, but after they take out half my pay for child support, I average MAYBE $700 a MONTH - with basic monthly living expenses exceeding $1200 / month...

In those cases, the $45 different makes a HELL of a difference...
