Jacking and supporting rear of 98 gxe

Hello all. I bought a 98 Maxima. I have completed the front brakes (Rotors, Pads and Calipers). Now it is time for the rear. The Haynes manual says to place the scissor jack under the rocker panel. My car did not have a jack. I have a floor jack and jack stands. How can I use my floor jack without destroying the rocker panel? Where can I place my jack stands. The manual does not address this. I am thinking: get two 2 x 4, 18 inches long, place them between the rocker panel and my floor jack and place the jack stand beside the floor jack lifting point, I think the weight would cause the board to form to the shape of the rocker panel somewhat, without destroying it. Any other ideas would be a great help!! Thanks for reading and responding.

Put the jack under the rear beam (in front of the spare tire well) and the stands at the factory jack points.

You could go to http://boredmder.com/FSMs/Nissan/Maxima/ and download the Nissan FSM. Then look in section GI (General Information), on page 41 and jack up your car without worry of damage.
