ok..

1. stop shouting. please use lower case. THANK YOU!!

2. a 2000 maxima has an engine with 222 horsepower

3. a 1996 maxima has an engine with 190 horsepower

hmm. installing a 2k engine in a 96.. interesting.. i will let others tell you about that one..

The hardest part would probably be getting all the electronics in order. The main differences in the engines themselves involve the intake system, cams and exhaust system.

But, a swap like this would cost more money than the mods required to get 222hp out of the 96 motor.

So when you comapre cost versus benefit, it's not a good plan.

if you are going to spend the money on getting a new engine, might as well go for the 2k2 engine.

the engines in the 4th gen and 5th gen's are basically the same. The 5th gen has a much more efficient exhaust and intake system, just as mzm said. If your really gonna do a new engine drop try to get your self that 6speed tranny -woohoo!- fun! If you do that you're going have to do a couple of minor changes in your cockpit

Best bet is probably just upgrading you 96 with aftermarket parts. Not gonna be worth the hassle other wise.

If you want a new engine, why not go for the VQ30DET (Turbocharged version of our engine).

difference in engines

if the engine is the same then i need what to make it the same. if it is a intake then i would buy a performance mod but stuff like intake manafold then thats a different story. heads are reworked ? maybe? i would like to know just what it is that 5 gen has that we at 4th gen dont then maybe i could find a guy that cut his speed limiter in his ecu and lost the car at 140+ and get the parts at a junkyard or something just thought i would ask. it would be nice to start at 222 than 190..

Intake manifold is the key. The 5th pulls hard all the way to redline. The 4th gen because of it's manifold design was made more for low end torque. It's a compromise on 4th gen because it lacks the variable intake manifold. Get the 5th gen manifold to work on your 4th gen.

What you will need is a variable intake runner, there has been some talk about it recently, here is one of the posts:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....ghlight=intake
In addition, as far as I can remember, the 5th gen one will not simply bolt onto the 4th gens.
