Something to be worried about? (AUTO transmission)

This is my first Nissan product and I'm not sure this is normal or not. I have a 2003 I35 Auto with 67000 miles on it. The change from first gear to second gear at WOT; it seems to take long time to engage second gear; it doesn't seem to slip either because it does not over rev and when 2nd hits it goes just fine. Then the second gear to third gear shift seems to happen early little over 6K RPM. Is this typical for these transmission or am i starting to see a problem?

I notice the same with my 01 Maxima. It doesn't slip because revs don't jump it just hangs for a split second.

I think its from 2nd to 3rd that I notice it more. I'll have to check it again today.

Yes, painfully common. If you don't plan to keep the car, drive more conservatively or tolerate it. Of course, continued abuse may inevitably result in actual issues.

Best advice if planning to keep the car, check motor mounts. Good method (using wheel scotches and gReat care/safety!) is to have the hood popped with someone standing to the side. Ensure brake pressed firmly with left foot while gently apply throttle. This should demonstrate how much engine movement you have and give a good idea about condition of your mounts. I say this because bad mounts while cause the shifts to feel even worse and more drawn out. After determining mount conditions and repairing if needed, I highly recommend installing a Transgo HD2 shift kit.

WOT huh....start with A fluid change IMO.....that will improve shifts for sure. Drive safe, and remember its not A race car.....more like A reliable car if you treat it right.

Thanks for the info. I do plan to have the transmission fluid changed when I get my tax return because the 60K mile service is up and needs to be done. I do take very good care of my cars; my last car 2000 Impala lasted to 220K miles before I sold it. Always use synthetic oils never more than 5-6K miles between changes and so on. My Infiniti is a great car overall and I do plan to keep it at least a good 100K miles just thought it odd but it doesn't seem to slip either so I thought I'd ask

Thanks Again
