MI Parting out 98 GLE
Parting out 98 GLE
Ok guys, I am not sure if I am going to part this car out yet. I would like to sell it as a whole but I am not sure if I'll get what I want. This car runs nice and smooth, fires right up, and everything inside functions. The Bose system was more than suitable for me for this being my daily driver.
A few months ago a driver who was high on drugs slammed into the back of my friends truck, and pushed his truck into my Nissan, then pushed my Nissan into the front of the neighbors house and my friends truck was on the front lawn.
The high-on just had to be in an F250, right?
Anyway, it's a white 98 GLE with 180k. I don't know if I want to part it out yet, as I would rather sell it whole because it does run very well. The trunk is smashed, and because the truck that hit me was actually my friends ranger, it went above the bumer, and crushed the sheet metal in the trunk area, and the quarter panels. It also blew out the back glass. Once my friends truck hit the rear of mine, it pushed my car out into the street and the intoxicated driver then smashed the side of my car.
So the damage is:
Rear glass smashed
Rear quarters smashed
Tail lights smashed
Deck lid, rear bumper etc all smashed
Drivers door smashed and glass blown out. Also tore up the door panel inside.
Front fender also got dented a bit but not terrible.
Drivers seat and rear bench seat has tears. Not sellable unless getting reupholstered. P/side seat is good, so is the backseat where your back rests.
Things that are still good is pretty much the rest of the car, including hood, front bumper (does have scuff from where his tire hit it), other fender, other doors, headlights.
The car was beige interior with wood grain.
Cylinder heads
Fuel injectors
Basically everything under the hood.
If I can't sell it as a whole, I would like to sell off the engine components piece by piece to get max $ out of this car.
If I could sell it whole for $800 that's what I would do.
Let me know what you guys think and what you need. If somebody messaged me and said that they needed the heads and I could get decent cash for that I would pull them off this weekend and ship them out.
I bought an Audi A4 Quattro and this car is an eyesore in my driveway, as it does have bags where the rear and drivers door glass used to be.
EDIT: Also, the entire front suspension on this car is new. Axles, control arms, inner and outer tie rods, shocks/springs (did the quick strut replacement), and the tires are brand new from September (Paid 300 for the fronts). Also did the passenger wheel bearing approximately this time 2012.
If I can get enough interest on parts that will make it worth while, I will start to tear into it.

Where abouts in MI are you? I'd be interested in some random trim parts and bose radio. Does your radio antenna work? I have a 98 that I picked up 2 weeks ago with 80K on the odometer. Need a few things for it.
I would rather hold off on selling interior trim pieces until I know for sure I'm parting it. Like I said, I'd have to sell some bigger money pieces like engine, trans, heads, etc...
Automatic trans shifts perfect as well. This was such a great car - I drove it to NJ and back 3 times over the last year and never once did I worry about having an issue.
It would be great if somebody just threw a new junkyard door on for $45 and got the rear glass replaced for $150 they would have a good running, but smashed rear, car for under $1000. It's a very smooth driving car.
Ok, here is an update with some pictures. I've been hit with a lot of snow and was trying to wait until it went away but it seems that isn't going to happen as aw got another 4 inches last night, so I just dusted it off.

And a pic of the brand new front tires, just put on a month before it was wrecked. They were used to drive home from NJ, but after that 600 mile trip, they probably only saw another 500 until I parked it in January.
