Smoked Tails w/ pics

Decided I didn't like the look of the white/chrome portion of the tails on my new 2012 so I picked up some light smoke vinyl to get rid of it. The red portion is already pretty dark so I left it alone, just did the turn signal/reverse light section. Pretty simple project.

Please excuse the difference in lighting. The befores were taken at dusk and the afters were taken at dawn.

Looks good. LOL on the phone cam pics. Phone cam's just don't deal with white balance correctly.

The vinyl goes on the outside, not the inside.

Very nice job. I like the look of the red in the tails but not the chrome, which is why I did the opposite, but yours look great too!!

dude, with how many people that have gotten the 2012 tails and gotten moisture problems i think you're better off staying with 09-11. thats why i built my sequential tails of my 09's instead of 2012's, i wasn't being cheap i just didnt want to deal with whatever moisture issues they keep having.

Funny you mention moisture issues. I picked up my 2012 two weeks ago, and this morning I noticed some moisture inside the side mirror turn signal. Bringing it to the dealer soon to complain.

What's the deal with moisture issues in Nissan new lights?

The tail lights are not sealed air tight. They are vented to allow heat dissipation. The TSB says that some moisture/condensation is normal.

FWIW ... I have a 2010 SV and have this moisture. It's not an issue that's limited to specific years. It's an issue with ALL A35's.

Moisture in the marker lights on the side view mirror is not normal. I just got back from a Nissan dealership this morning. They are ordering new mirrors and will be replaced in a couple of weeks.

I'm surprised they feel moisture in the taillight is "normal". Doesn't seem normal to me lol.

It's driving me crazy that on a car I've had for 2 weeks there is moisture in the side mirror turn signal. Glad to hear they'll replace them but I hope the new ones are sealed correctly!

Happened to me too, when I went in for my last oil change they just swapped it out under warranty. The moisture actually popped my signal light so glad they got it fixed quick

Why would the 2012's be vented and the 2009-2011's not - when I've never heard of any problems with the 09-11 tail lights that would require heat dissipation like LEDs burning out etc? I think they just screwed up with design and made up an excuse. SMD LED's on circuit boards should not be exposed to too much moist air, moisture + electronics doesn't mix well.

All 7th Gen tail lights are vented.

Every year has moisture problems.

Looks really nice. I didn't go with a 2012 because of those lights which I could be easily changed but I'm too lazy. Yours looks really clean though. Good job.
