o2 sensor thread striped out in y-pipe

So i was attempting to change out my oxygen sensors this morning. I was able to remove/replace the o2 sensor in bank 2 but the one in bank one gave me problems.

Little did i know the oxygen sensor was really badly rusted on. I even tried soaking it with wd 40. Then this happened....

What other options do i have besides replacing the Y-pipe?

So that being said........ Buying a y-pipe, preferably cheap.
And i might as well buy a high flow cat as well since im going to be under there.

You might be able to get a muffler shop to weld you in a new bung in the old location. I would at least ask.

depending on where you live, you can get a y pipe from a junk yard for cheap. You could try to repair it with quik steel maybe, but I doubt it would hold up. Then with a repair, you run a risk of messing up your O2 sensor. There's plenty of our cars in junk yards, its probably best you replace it, or go aftermarket.

Well if they were to weld something on, they would have to take the y-pipe off right?

So if they are going to go through the hassle of doing that, I might as well replace my y-pipe with a less restrictive pipe.

Oh & another question. Will an aftermarket y-pipe have the same o2 sensor holes for all my o2s? I think i have 4 from looking at the top of my engine bay. But today's work only involved replacing bank1 & 2 sensor 1

Our Maximas have 3. The 2 you replaced, and one behind (or in for 95) the catalytic converter. Aftermarket y-pipes have the bungs for the O2 sensors. If I were you, i would go with the aftermarket one.

i was only replacing 2 sensors. I did not already replace 2 sensors. Sorry if that confused you. i was replacing the primary sensors in each bank.

The reason i guessed that there was 4 sensors was because in the front of the valve covers. In the middle, starting from the left; is the plug for o2 sensor bank 2 sensor 1. And i suppose the next two plugs to the right were for the o2 sensors for the secondary sensors in both banks.

Unless you have a California Maxima, you should have 3. If you are Cali spec, I'm not sure if they make an aftermarket Y-pipe that has the fourth O2 bung. Getting under the car and checking is probably the easier way to check. But I'm not sure where those plugs go to. I don't remember mine having plugs at the front of the engine.

Okay, so this afternoon ; I went to several repair shops and most of them just suggested me to replace the y-pipe. One shop quoted me 120 to change the y-pipe. Is there anyone here in the NYC area could help me install a y-pipe for cheaper?

That being said, anyone know any cheap aftermarket brands that do not have much problems with fitment to a stock exhaust?

@Aflion The sensor that i was refering to in the front was the o2 sensor in bank 2 sensor 1.

I say warpspeed, but I'm biased because I own one.
Wish I could afford and find a full cattman.

How much did you spend for your warpspeed?

I think they are $230 ish but check their website. They have high flow cats as well. I wouldn't waste my time putting the stock garbage ypipe back on. You'll be happy with your newfound power from an aftermarket ypipe. Good luck.

I'm going to assume its without shipping. Call them and ask they seem like good people. If money is tight check the classifieds I bought my y pipe used for $100.

If you have a Cali spec 99 then you need a y pipe for that model. The Cali spec has 4 O2 sensors, all up front. The y pipe retains the front pre cat just below the manifold. All the O2 holes will be there.

All the other 4th gens have the same y pipe. They have 2 O2's up front, and one in the cat (95-96) and one behind the cat (97-99).
