Odometer not working, looking for actual or aprox mileage.

Hey there guys.. Love this forum I've gotten help for everything so far.. So my current issue is this.. The odometer doesn't run anymore, I was told go to a junkyard for a new cluster and find one close to my mileage.. No problem; my issue is how would I find out my current mileage? I bought the car used from another member of my autoclub he said it's around 170K that his mechanic found out from the engine, is there anyway to confirm/check this out myself?

There isn't any 2nd spot that records the mileage. The mechanic must have been guestimating mileage based on the engine's condition and I don't know how accurate he might be. Plus the condition of an engine is based on how it was driven and how it was maintained.

It has somehow been decided that the average car is driven 12K miles a year. If that is true for your car, that would translate to 192K miles.

You may be able to get an idea from a CarFax report. When the license is renewed, the mileage is reported to the state. You have to pay for a CarFax report.
