Buying a non Nissan warranty...your thoughts?
Buying a non Nissan warranty...your thoughts?
Okay so you all know I'm new here and know nothing at Nissan Maxima's other than what I've read on this forum. I almost feel like I don't belong because I haven't taken delivery of the car yet. 2010 Maxima SV with sports package, has 77000km (48125 miles), has had 3 minor warranty claims but I don't know What for, I was rushing and only know it was minor stuff. I can get details though
In my 1,750,000 km's of driving cars I have only driven a Maxima for 3-5 km's (15 minutes)
, I'm brand new to this car (that I don't have yet)...
When I test drove the Maxima I noticed one thing that was odd to me. When sitting at a light stopped it almost felt like a stumble in the idle for a few brief seconds, I don't know if the throttle body maybe needs a clean or this would point to another issue?
So the offer is 2.5 years of warranty with unlimited km's for $1358 with a $90.00 deductable or $1458 with 0 dedectable. It's an after market warranty and the only negative I see is a max of $3000 per repair.
My GM extended warranty (4yrs, 160000 km) on my Envoy Denali cost about $4500, and I kid you not the truck has had over $12000 in repairs including a new 5.3 motor installed @ $7500, at 84000km
Do you think I should buy the warranty coverage for the Maxima? How reliable are these cars, my research said they are pretty good but only you guys on the forum would really know...are there any component's that are sure or likley to fail?
Thanks.

Dealers try to sell you on the warrenty because they are Huge money makers for them.
Might not need it, maybe you will. I'm not sure anyone here can answer that. It boils down to your own peice of mind. But, I'd definately mention the stumble (though my interpretation of your description - sounds typical). I'd also find out the warrenty services already done, if nothing else just to have the history of the car.
After having my local dealer run my vin, they told me the only service on mine was a battery replacement in the first year.... no biggie. Funny though cause that same battery was still in my car when I bought it couple of years ago.

I was considering an extended warranty, but when I checked into the details, I would not be allowed to work on my car. EVERYTHING, including oil changes, had to be done by a certified service shop. It also had a mileage cap on it, meaning after the odometer hit a certain number, no more warranty.
That was not for me. And the reality is that the car is very reliable. I would have lost money buying the warranty.
