I am new and have a question. I have a 2003 Maxima 3.5 and recenly had a new timing chain , guides and tensioner installed. After installation, the mechanic said tps was bad, so we replaced throtttle body with sensor. Then car would not run over 1800 RPM. mechanic was apparently inexperienced with this engine, so I picked car up and started to dealership with it, and water pump went out. back to mechanic, installed water pump. Now car does not fire at all. I pulled code with OBD scan and it say throttle pedal sensor is bad. I am thinking that he got timing off
when he changed waterpump. I am not a nissan mechanic, but I've had much experience with older vehicles, but I thought it should fire some, even if timing was off a notch or two. I am perplexed. Could any one help me? Has anyone had this problem before?

 

How did the car run prior to getting the timing chain , tensioner and guides installed?

Did you get it replaced due to noise?

 

It ran ok, had some timing chain noise, and a skip or miss at certain speeds. Two shops said it was timing chain. Now it doesn't fire at all since water pump replacement. I've checked connections on all wires and cables. i was told by one mechanic to check crank sensor, but since it is not near front of engine, I did not think it was relevant since no work was done around it. Mechanic did lose a water pump bolt into timing cover but retrieved it with magnet pickup tool. Scan code says Throttle Pedal position sensor. Could it just go out? Will timing being off cause no firing at all?

Maybe someone has had this happen, If not, don't tell me to get a new mechanic, because I am looking for one now. The timing chain was streched and worn very much, But that is not the problem now.
It is not firing to coils or plugs or anywhere as far as I can tell. What I would truly like to know if any of you know for sure is---- If timing is off will it not fire at all? 2003 maxima 3.5 late year car.

 

Dude get a new mechanic. You gave him a running car and he returned a broken car.

Also, timing chain noise is usually just the tensioners. Chain rarely is replaced. I imagine you paid a lot for all this....and it is not working so bring it back. I bet your original problem was a bad coil and timing chain tensioners.

 

Sounds like you need to make that mechanic pay to get your car running again....

 

This was kind of my first thought. I have RARELY heard of TC's being replaced. I'm new to the Maxima ownership, but I have been in the auto world for a long time. That mechanic has no idea what he is doing. I'd get him to fix it, refund me or take him to small claims court asap. Then, avoid him like he's the plague.

 

Water pumps don't fail, either, and it sounds exactly like the timing is off.
