Coolant Inlet Gaskets

Have many of you 5.5 genners experienced coolant leakage on the 2 small flanges on that metal driver side hose that the upper rad hose clamps on to? These are the small flanges that bolt to the engine block.

For anyone's who's done it, did the whole inlet pipe have to come off to get full access and clean the mating surfaces, or is there a way to do it without doing so much surgery?

Thx!

You might be able to just unbolt them from the block and slide a new gasket in but truthfully the coolant pipes aren't too difficult to take off. They're on there pretty good after you get the bolts out, with rubber o-rings.

A friend and I replaced mine due to rust recently. No pics but literally maybe 8 bolts.

Thanks for the insights, MrEous. Where are the o-rings? I don't see any on the parts diagram, I thought it's only the flange gasket.

If you're removing the entire assembly the o-rings are on the connecter close to the left-most, front part of engine...near timing cover area.

I think ur talking about the two coolant pipes in front of the engine. Those do rust and have o-rings.

Were talking about the coolant pipe on the driver side with 2 flanges going into the block. That have gaskets.

I just did these gaskets today i bought the gaskets from nissan dealer about $6 for both and it was a tough one for me. Its straightforward you remove all the hoses connected to the coolant pipe and remove the 10mm bolts holding brackets to the coolant pipe then i felt that the top coolant pipe running in front of the engine had to be moved to let the coolant pipe on the driver side come out. After that clean up the surfaces and replace the gaskets. I didnt drain my radiator i just kept disconnecting hoses and pointed them up because i only had 1 gallon of antifreeze and it was enough. Remember to bleed your radiator properly.
