Headache with Rear Brake Calipers (Both Sides)

8 months ago I replaced the right rear brake caliper because it was dragging, found the piston was seized, so it was about that time. I should have done both of them at the same time... but I didn't.

Problem number 1. The attached picture is now how the right rear rotor is wearing, I took the pads out and they seemed okay. It is a reman caliper from Advance Auto Parts with lifetime warranty.

Problem number 2. The left rear caliper is now starting to give me a headache. I noticed a little while ago that the parking brake is not grabbing on that side. (I park on a decline at work and set it every day) Inspected all cables between the handle and caliper, everything is connected and the cable pulls the lever (on the caliper) when the handle is pulled as it should, but it does not move the piston. Put the car on the lift to test the left rear corner with the pedal and it works as it should, so that leads me to believe that the piston is not stuck.

What is causing the uneven wear on the right rear rotor?

Why would the pedal work but not the hand brake on the left rear caliper?

Thanks in advance. Cheers.

Edit: Pardon the brake dust that coated everything, depending on the solution to this problem it will either be replaced or rebuilt. That leads to being cleaned up in the brake tank.

I assume you replaced the rotor when you replaced the caliper?

Yes I did. When it seized it did not go down alone, it look the pads and rotor with it.

You still have a caliper problem. I am assuming you bled the brakes (I really hope so) I would take it back and get a new caliper. Your parking brake not working on the driver side may also be a caliper problem. if you have a seized brake caliper, the brakes have enough force to min move the caliper, but the cable doesn't. Or you have a problem in your parking brake linkage. Easiest solution is start "fresh" and replace both calipers, and you will want to either replace your rotors or machine them at min. You pads should also be checked for un even wear. If they are uneven then replace them as well.

I definitely bled the brakes, and have done it twice since. I can never seem to get that last little bit of slop out of the pedal... But maybe that's because the left rear caliper is on its way out as well.

Thanks for your help, I think I will take your advice and get the right one warrantied and replace the left one. The parking brake cables are all tight and adjusted as per the FSM (10-11 clicks to full pressure, 1 click for light to illuminate), so it has to be the caliper. A rear brake overhaul should help pedal feel quite a bit I'd imagine.

flush the fluid and start fresh would be my suggestion on the pedal. The funny wear is not a bleeding issue though that's either a caliper or rotor (or very unlikely a pad issue). Since you replaced the rotor I would check the caliper, it looks like maybe the caliper is tweaked (bent) and its putting pressure only in that spot because of it. Can you pull the pads and check them out?

I called up Advance and they are going to warranty the right rear caliper, rear pads, and right rear rotor. I only had to pay for the left rear caliper and rotor, so I will just swap everything out, flush the brake fluid, and start over.

EDIT: I know I edit everything, but it was a stupid question. So I removed it.
