2000 Nissan Maxima - Bank 1 and 2 Error Codes - California

Good morning.. new to this forum... I have a 2000 Nissan Maxima with about 160000 miles on it that is throwing the P0420 and P0430 error codes. (Bank 1 and 2). From talking to various places (dealer, etc.) they are saying Im in need of replacing the catalytic converters.

An additional issue for me is that Im in California so I need to be able to have the CATs shipped to and installed in California as well as the vehicle needs to pass CA emissions.

Anyone have any experience with this? Any front cats that are direct connect? (I cant find one). Anyone successful in welding a universal on the front? One mechanic said he wouldn't recommend it.. but that could just be his opinion.

Note this vehicle is for my 16 year old son so don't want to dump a lot of money into it... I don't have much time as the vehicle needs to be smogged in February.

Any input/feedback would be greatly appreciated...
Thank you...

You're in Cali, not many options there.

Check this thread, everything you need to know is here:

have a friend in another state buy 'rm for you... then have them ship to your house.

find a friend who's turbo'd/SS and ask where they get a smog... then go there.

There are direct bolt on replacements on ebay.
Some say will not ship to CA but others do not.

99% cannot legally ship to CA. Thus, I just had a friend that lives in AZ deliver my OBD2 compliant Bank2 cat because he is in town for Christmas!!

They are 'easy' to install, but you've got have the tools
