Ran over a center divider and slammed into curb on other side :(

Well, I was driving to meet Dario, and it was dark and misty. I don't have my fogs running right now since I got a burned out bulb, Making a left turn, I couldn't see well to my left and right sides. I turned to sharp to the left and forgot about the cement devider in the middle of the road! I saw it at the last second, turned the wheel as hard as I could with a sprained wrist with a split on it, didn't make it enough turn on time, and the car hit it, went over it, and when it got over it, I tried to turn it back to the left so I wouldn't hit the other side, BAM, hit the right front on the curb and almost hit the pole but saved it just on time. I pulled into a hotel that was right there, and checked over the car. Scraped up the tires pretty well. One wheel has a eraser sized chip out of it, on the inner part of the rim where its hard to see (between the tire seat and the wheel). I hopped onto the highway right after this, testing the car, and to my surprise, car still went straight, steering wheel is straight, and no vibrations except from my defective tires in the rear!

These DAMN WHEELS are strong!!! That center divider is 9 inches tall!

Anyways, I met with Dario, drove his car with Eibachs, it was a bit rough on some things, and fine on others. I will get H&R though. His car sounded nice with the mods he had! Then I took him for a ride in a stock 5spd MAx: ) He was like OH MY GOD, this car is FAST! Hehe, big difference.

Anyways, after that, I got home, and got the flash light to check over the car. Left front tire had a slit on the sidewall, 1 mm deep, nothing bad. And the rim protector looked a little bent (not perfectly circle....so it damaged the tire, but those are going soon anyways. Hopefully they will last me at least another few months. Other tires and wheels are fine. Couldn't look under, but I am sure its okay, I just went up on the tires, not under the car.

I am just so worried I hurt my baby....but she seems okay for now.

i have a friend with a 2001 passat that tried to make an S turn, but failed.
he slammed into the curb and bent the tie rod and loosened a gear in his power steering. he also cracked his rim and had to get a new one.
total came out to $1700.
i was inside the car when it happened and boy did it hurt!
im happy that u didnt have to go through this.

How do you know if you loosen a gear in the steering? I am gonna check under the car tomarrow, but if it feels no different than before, I am sure its okay.

Big, the rim protector is that lip on the tire that extends past the rim edge to protect it. It has metal in it.

Man i thought by the title of the thread that it was much worse. Does your car have any damage to the body or only the rims? Glad to hear your o.k. Russ.

russ, we knew that there was something wrong when the power steering didnt work at all. when u turn the wheel, normally, the car would straighten out....but after we hit the curb, and tried to turn, the wheel wouldnt come back. and the steering itself feels very awkward.

Well, just got done unmounting the tires, checking under the frame, and all suspension components. Everything is fine. Nothing is bent. The tire took it all it seems. I also remounted the brake calipers due to a noise I hear every once in a while, and greased the spring seat which took care of the clunking noise from my suspension on the front I have had for a while. I am lucky...

You might want to go get an alignment check, just to be sure. Lot of places here will take the readings for no charge, and only charge if/when they have to adjust.

Could have been alot worse...

Last year, my roomate took a turn too hot in his teg GSR, the rear swung out, and he hit a curb (like 4" high). Well, a pregnant tire and bent control arm later, he was back in shape. Oh yah, he told his dad he hit a pothole!! LOL

Same thing happened to me 2 months ago. I hit the divider and rode the curb for a littel while. Some lady slammed her brakes to avoid something on the road and while I avoided her I hit the curb. Once I stopped I tried to drive away but the car wouldn't move. When the tow truck came (after being stranded for 3 hours) he lifted the car and the drivers side wheel just dangled as if help up by a string! I was devastated. In the end the bill came out to $3,500. My car does not feel the same at all. It doesn't feel as smooth or as stable. It also make a slight grinding noise that drives me crazy. I just want to trade her in. Mitsu Evo VII or 350 Z are my choices. Glad to hear your ok Russ and that you had better luck than I. When you think about it, it would have been better had I just hit the lady. Body damage is fixable with basically no lingering issues. Suspension damage sucks.

Also thought I let you guys know how hard the hit was......this will kinda explain it.

When I hit the divider, my center console opened up, the glove box opened and stuff fell out, and my radar V1 fell off the windshield..

That is how hard it hit, and I swore I broke something.
