I recently booked a rental car for and upcoming family trip to Florida. We're getting a convertible, but I noticed that a Maxima was an option. I thought that was kind of neat.
Until I saw the rate. $240 a DAY! Now I love my Maxima, but that's just plain absurd. A regular full size car was about 45 a day. How can they justify that kind of rate? It's not an Aston Martin or a Bentley.

Insane! I rented a MB GL450 last time I went to Florida. $89/day.

How good of a deal you get on the vert? I had a Camaro convertible over the summer from WPB and it was only like $49/day. But the trick was I booked a mid-size and then negotiated an upgrade. They always have verts because they're expensive, so upgrading saved me a ton over the list value. BTW - HERTZ FTW you jus have to know how to find deal codes

I got a Mustang convertible. Price wasn't bad, about $65 a day.
We got it because it's been the car my wife has always wanted. Turns out we both hated it. We had our two young kids in the back, so the seats had to be up enough so they would fit. That severely limited the space in the front. In that arrangement the driver's position suffered terribly both the gas and brake pedals were way too close to the driver despite a ton of space behind them. The really fatal blow was the stupid way Ford makes the head restraints tip so far forward. I know there are federal rules about the head restraints, but they almost push your head down. It's a horrible design.
We had the car for three days. The first day we drove from Tampa to Kennedy Space Center and back (about 300 miles). It was so uncomfortable we tried to trade it for another convertible, but they didn't have anything else.

We have a "premium" car ( actually says Maxima or Similar) reserved at National at TPA (Tampa Airport) 4/5 - 4/13 for $276 for 8 days including taxes and fees.
Reserving a premium at National TPA usual gets you just about any car they have in the garage.............last year we got a BMW 328
You mentioned Tampa, my experience has been that National at TPA ( use the Blue lot near Delta baggage claim) has the best prices and you just walk out and pick what car you want, no waiting in line.

yea I've rented from Hertz they consider that "premium". Were talking about the basic S model here. Its easy to get it at the standard rate(altima etc). Just rent from the airport a normal car and once you get to the counter just ask specifically for the maxima etc. Unless that person is a douche bag they will just give it to you. Its always 3 maximas sitting at the airport. I'm glad im not renting anymore.
