Stereo back light is blinding at night

Is there a way or a mod to turn the backlight on the stereo down ALOT more than factory or turn it off. I know you can dim it and i know you can turn the screen black but i want the light gone. I drive ALOT in pitch black roads and even with it blacked and dimmed its still really bright.

Any solutions?

Is there a backlight wire i can put a dimmer switch on or something. im good with modding i just havent opened her up yet.

Might be easy just to put a tint on the screen?

I think it was pretty asinine of Nissan to have the backlight stay on even if u switch the screen off...

Modify it on a piece of plastic with a hinge to flip down by night and up by day lol. O.k a way of wiring in a dimmer is sounding more practical. You would think there would be a setting on the deck for that purpose?

odd, never noticed anything being that bright even in dark areas. it is odd that its not adjustable with the dash but it's nowhere near blinding imo

(no offense)something wrong with your eyes? should not be blinding especially since your not staring at it.

Ok so not blinding but the long road trips i take through WI that back light on the screen is more than moderately annoying to drive with. After a hour or so i start to get a headache from it. in all my old cars i would set the cruise and turn off all interior lights. I wish i could in this one too

I have to admit it bothered me at first as well. I love driving at night but the extra lighting was not something I was used to. I make sure not to use GPS or rather the MAP display at night and have gotten used to it now. But I certainly understand the OP's consternation!

I guess I dont drive that much at night. They use that amber/orange color specifically because BMW? has found that that color does not strain the eyes or is least strain-full fwir

Yep, it is all about what you are used to. I admit to be partial to chrysler blue, but then again, everyone has their own tastes and opinions!

I am among those who does not like a distracting glare from anywhere on the dash at night. So far, I haven't had this problem with the 7th gen Maxima.

I do what Chdmorrison does. I almost always have the map on, so when day fades to night, I simply turn the screen background to black, and then do not notice a glare.

I also have the option of adjusting the brightness of the screen from very bright to rather dim, although that may be a function of having the Tech with Navi package.

I was told by the shop that tinted my windows that the screen is plastic so tint won't stick.

You can adjust the contrast and brightness which helps but I agree it's still annoying when your on dark roads.

so i was driving in my '10 the other night and i was able to turn off all the lights by simply turning the **** on the cluster. the only light that remained was the cruise control light and the headlight icon.... maybe you can get an update if that does not work for you. I have a '10 and im pretty sure i have the tech package. the minimum brightness setting is pretty easy on the eyes.

Get a small sheet of tint, cut it to fit the screen but dont adhere it. Place it over the screen at night and remove it during the day and keep it in the handy dandy glove box

Lol, really? A piece of tint is very thin and sticks to itself. Not a good idea.

Have a friend who did it. I did mistype tho, he placed it on a thin piece of clear plastic.
