Cluster gauage removal

Tried looking it up but didn't find the information that I'm looking for but the guest ion I have is does anyone know how to remove the cluster gauage on a 2009 Maxima any information would be great thanks for your help thanks in advance.

I see the cluster lid has 2 screws one is behind the info button is that true

It's easy once you get the cluster lid off there is only 3 screws holding the gauges in place one on the left and right bottom corners then the other is at the top in the middle then there is just a harness plug on the back that you can remove as well.

How do you recalibrate the needles on the cluster gauage I bumped the speedo and tack now there off a little.

Hopefully that information is in the FSM. I have not had any luck finding anything in the FSM. Maybe there is a reset procedure. perhaps disconnecting the battery or turning the vehicle on and off or just driving it.

When I start the car the needles are around an inch to the right of the zeroes

Why did you pull the cluster in the first place? Was there something wrong with it? Is it possible that you did not install a connector on properly? Are there any other functions of the cluster that are not working properly?

I removed the cluster so I could stick a peace of tape over the low tire pressure light because I have another bad tire sensor there is only one harness plug on the back of the cluster when I removed the clear plastic cover I bumped the needles for the tack and speedo the rest are fine I tried doing some searching online the only thing I can really fine is to use magnets to move the needles but there using them on 6th gen maximas.

Maybe there is some way in the rear of the cluster to move those needles back? I'm not sure what it is but there should be a simple reset or adjustment procedure for this.

It should not be so complicated...... anything but the dealer.

Going through the diagnostic process listed below may reset your gauges. Give it a try.

Go to FSM, (MWI) Meter Warning lamp Indicator, DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM (METER) and perform the self diagnostic function for the meters/gauges as described in that section.

DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM (METER)
Diagnosis Description INFOID:0000000010049564
SELF-DIAGNOSIS MODE
• Odo/trip meter and information display segment operation can be checked in self-diagnosis mode.
• Meters/gauges can be checked in self-diagnosis mode.
OPERATION PROCEDURE
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. While pushing the odo/trip meter switch, turn the ignition switch ON again.
3. Push the odo/trip meter switch at least 3 times within 7 seconds after the ignition switch is turned ON.
4. The unified meter control unit is turned to self-diagnosis mode.
• All the segments on the odo/trip meter illuminate.
5. Push the odo/trip meter switch. Each meter/gauge should indicate as shown in the figure.

Well it didn't work I tried it several times I removed the cover and messed with the needles set them to zero started and stopped the car multiple times and seemed to work I thought I fixed it every single time 1 minute after I turned the car off the needles would start to move past the zeroes again I moved them back to zero started and the car again all is good but a minute later the needles moved past the zeroes again so I don't know I'll play with it some more over the weekend.

The FSM states to disconnect the battery before removing the cluster. It may just be a safety thing but it may also have to do with a reference voltage or ground. You may want to try disconnecting the battery. Resetting the needles and then connecting the battery.

Yea this is why I don't mess with the instrument cluster. I screwed up my tach on my last car trying to install one of those cluster overlays, and Nissan wanted several hundred to recalibrate it. So from that point on my tach went backwards.

I'll try disconnecting the battery to see if that works if it dosent from this point on I'll never mess with them again.

At this point I'm not sure what it is but there has to be an easy way to recalibrate this thing. I'll keep looking through the manual, wll let you know if I find anything. Sometimes you just have to be patient with these things and you find an answer eventually.

The only other thing I can think of doing is sticking a small peg buy the needles so they don't go past the needles.
