I just bought my Dad's beloved 2003 Maxima and I need a full set of brakes, but after reading a thread about an upgrade to 6th gen I'm really confused.

To clarify: If I purchase rotors, pads and calipers at Napa for a 2004 Maxima, I will have everything I need to do the job? These parts will drop in with no mods. Correct? Is this only for the fronts? What about the rear?

And what rubber floor mats do you guys recommend? I'm thinking about WeatherTech.

 

I believed there's a lot of modification to upgrade it to 6th generation. Beware of NAPA rotors, I bought a NAPA rotor with OEM brake pads with 87 foot-lb torque on the 5 bolts, and it only last for 6 moths (warped)good thing I have the warranty, my mechanic replaced it with a new one. I used hexomat floor lining, just get the black color.

 

Yes it is very easy drop in "plug and play" with the 6th Gen BBK. 6th Gen Rotors, Pads, Calipers is all you need. Just make sure your wheels will fit the bigger rotors. What trim of 2003 do you have? IIRC only the 5th gen SE wheels (2000-2001) didn't fit the larger 6th gen rotors.

6th gen bbk requires all of the following,everything's a must

Rotors
Calipers,
Caliper mounting bolts
Caliper brackets
Caliper bracket mounting bolts
Brake pads
You can use the brake lines that are on your car already,

Everything is plug and play, simple as that, no mods required no drilling cutting nothing, it's a simple swap with much better braking,


This is also doable on a 4th gen with one extra step

00-03 stock wheels do fit just fine with the 6gen bbk

 

you can only use 5th gen SE 17" wheels for the 6th gen calipers... Its most likely the best upgrade you can even do that car... I had mine for about 2 years now... simply amazing... rear brakes you only have one option upgrade and its kind of pricey... for the 6th gen front brakes I used centric rotors and akebono pads... almost 30K later my brakes are not even half way worn...

 

if you have a 5.5 gen you should be fine. please search to confirm which oem wheels work and dont work. here is one good thread to get u started

you need to be much more clear in what you are saying is needed, espeically since you describe needing things that will be already be on the car and will be re - used when doing this.

1st off for example you do not need any caliper bolts since you are reusing the bolts on the existing brakes. by caliper brackets hopefully you mean the torque members but that usually comes with calipers when you buy new or even used. If you get used from a junk yard online you make sure you are getting the torque members also.

This wording is confusing. You can use other 5th gen & 5.5 gen wheels also. IIRC there was only one style of 5th/5.5gen wheels that do not fit and that was 5th Gen (2000-2001) GLE wheels. To make sure search a little as this has all been discussed before over and over, and over again in this thread.

 

all 5th gen 17" SE wheels will cover the 6th gen calipers. including the 5.5the gen 17" se wheels
