I recently tried to hard wire my radar detector into the fuse box with no success. Reason being the fuses are so tiny and no room to jam the wires in. This is the only way I know how to do it. I feel safe doing this as the power wire is also fused.
Does anyone have a better suggestion as to where I should tap into or whatever? Has anyone done this or similar?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks all.

Which radar detector do you have? Usually they're all the same in hardwiring, but some of them come included with a hardwire kit. You actually have two options to hardwire it:

The first being that you can also tap into the back of the mirror making your own "Invisicord" using a telephone cord, heatshrink, and some D-sub connectors. On my 2014 S (no Homelink), slot #1 is the ground and slot #4 is the switched power, so it turns on and off with the engine. So you'll basically just jam the D-sub connectors into the slots. You can check easily the power for your particular mirror using a voltmeter. It doesn't turn on either in ACC mode, so my V1 doesn't go off whilst I'm listening to music in the parking lot.

Since you have already ran the wire down into the fuse box, the second option is that you can still go through it this way using a Add-A-Circuit or Add-A-Fuse for mini-fuses. More info and pictures here.

invisicord

Check out invisicords...they can directly connect right behind your home link mirror. very simple installation, looks hardwired, and reasonably priced. I've been using mine for about a year and the wire is still perfectly fine.

Have mine wired the same way (V1 user too), but saved myself the $15-20 Invisicord charges by making my own.

If I remember correctly, I used an 8-inch telephone cord and wrapped the extra slack around the mount that attaches the mirror to the windshield. This is to ensure that if the suction cups on my radar detector fails, it will still hold it in place instead of dropping it straight down onto the plastic trim and risk damaging it. It has saved me from one fall already, so I made sure to clean the suction cups and windshield and reattached them.

What mount are you using?
