micro fiber towels
micro fiber towels
I washed my towels the other day and now they are rough. I washed them in warm water with a little woollite and dried them on low. Would using them mess up the finish on my vehicles? Has anyone had this happen as well.
There's tons of posts on the net about not using any kind of fabric softener on micro-fiber towels. In fact I've found that the fabric softeners /treatments used in washing machines and dryers end up smearing your car windows no matter what window cleaner spray product you use. Then you need something like Bon-Ami glass cleaner to get the smearing off. Here a typical link for washing micro-fiber towels:

Not sure if you had wax on them. Lot's of people are using Woolite with good results. I would re-wash them in hot water. Perhaps the adjacent fibers are sticking together forming stiff columns of thicker fibers. Warm water does not clean or dissolve waxy and many other types of residue very well. It's worth a try and won't take long to do!
I usually let my towels soak in hot water in a bucket, and then toss them into the washing machine. I don't use any fabric softener either, and they come out like new. But then again, I only use my towels to dry my car and wipe off wax or sealants after they've already been dilated or dried to a light haze, and the occasional interior cleaning. I primarily use newspaper to clean my windows since it doesn't smear and I have a bundle of them.
