My Ten Cent Kabob skewer Ambient button im my 98 GLE (pic)

Now i know im FAR from the first person to do this, but I Just wanted to show you guys the other day when i was bored i decided to make a ghetto ambient temp. button in my 98 GLE...its allways nice to be able to use all the options that are meant to be used!

I found a nice little piece of oak laying around the basement and cut it down to just the right size to fit behind where the ambient temp button should be...i cut it and from trial and error i kept sanding it down til it fit just right behind the cover perfectly and moved freely, then i drilled a hole in the piece of oak and inserted a half inch long piece of a wooden shish kabob skewer into the oak and with a sharpy marker i colored it black, then i drilled a hole just the perfect size (of the skewer)into the center of where the ambient temp button should be....and BANG 20 minutes my ghetto ambient button.........................

I think it looks dam good! and works ferfect!

(it was bothering me knowing there was a button back there i couldnt use)

When u push the button it displays the outside temp. for 5 seconds

It just drove me crazy that nissan had everything wired for it to work, they just didnt put the button in the 98's..why spend the money buuying and putting the temp sensor/thermometer in the grill, then said the hell with it...

The only thing i can think happened, is they decided to put it in on the 98's and someone overlooked the decision and ordered the wrong acc covers, cuz it is adressed in the owners manual like its there so they had good intentions..
Its not really a big deal, but is is nice knowing the outside temp...i have been checking the accuracy against other thermometers i have and its allways within 1 degree..so it works nice too

You've been on this forum for how long now, and you don't know about the '99 ambient temp feature! I miss my '99SE sometimes... mostly how clean it was.

Did i30s get this earlier?

I'm pretty sure my 98 i30 has this stock.

If you have the updated, later model digital HVAC console you either had the AMB function or you could enable it. The earlier version console with the round up/down temperature buttons on the left could not utilize it.

i did mine with a unibit, dowel pin and sharpie. however i realize that mine is up to 7 degrees wrong sometimes. i believe the sensor is around the front bumper support? either which way, im glad i have it, accurate or not. and yeah the 99's had the amb button in the assy. but i still like the "mod" better
