Plasti-dipped my grill
Thanks man, it took me an hour to make the lines to my perfection.. You'd def need to get a magnifying glass to see any flaws, only thing is the plasti-dip drys up quick so you have to remove the tape right away after applying a heavy coat to avoid tearing in the dip
Looks nice. I went the long annoying expensive route!!!

Next is to examine the trunk handle to partially dip because fully dipped seems to take away looks being the car is a dark color. I also had an idea of the small gap being filled in but don't think it would last long because of how small it is.. But first the dip for now!

The things I really dislike about those grills besides not being to my taste..
1- Being able to see behind it, now you see that vertical part of the bumper in the center! You see much more and then even blacking out of the rad and whatever else you'd black out would just seem less visible from far away but up close it would drive me nuts. Im blacking out my radiator just to hide any small traces of silver that can be seen.
2- Besides never seen the mesh on a lower grill and brake ducts it looks so much more horrible over the lower and duct openings, I would of at least put the mesh those areas or cut out the lower fin and brake ducts.
3- Its just so plain/simple and cheap looking and it takes away looks of the car. It can be made of the best materials and it would just still look the same just dumb for waste of quality material.
4- I can make it and it'd be cheap. I have some extra wire mesh left from tiling my garage floor. As for making the border I cant think of anything but welding something nice. If the grill was for a license plate frame sized opening then I would buy the plate frame. I don't know how much they costed you but a trip to home depot probably wouldn't of hurt.
Please know I'm not trying to offend you, I'm just pointing out things from my own opinions. If you like what you did thats fine just how I like my own and thats what matters most. But I gotta say my grill looks way better than yours, lol..

Why would you say my grill looks like a burger.. :/ The things I really dislike about those grills besides not being to my taste.. 1- Being able to see behind it, now you see that vertical part of the bumper in the center! I enjoy some of the fact that you can see through the mesh just like a good automatic with Swiss movement shows some of the inner workings. I think plastidip is boring, cheap(yes again) and not unique or creative but hey just look at the plastidip thread for my support there.
As someone said the logo looks like a burger so that should clear that up for you.
I digress, to each his own or every cripple has his own way of walking😜 Late👎
Wow. I like the little debate happening here. Must say, OP threw out some strong words about the mesh grill, then tried to say "not trying to offend" as if he's unsure if what he said was offensive. I'd bet anyone that the mesh grill gets more compliments from passers-by than a stock grill, no matter how spiced up it is. I like the stock grill on our Maximas. Especially the '12 and up style. But the mesh grill gets all sorts of positive attention, no question about it. I've got several exterior mods, but the one that people make it a point to tell me they like is usually the grill.
I actually agreed with Justmaxxin's remarks about the mesh grill but a simple +1 to his initial remark about not liking it was all that was needed. I've only seen one mesh grill on here that I really liked. It was on the crimson red max from somewhere in NYC. The grille was custom, black and had a Nismo badge in the lower corner.
I'd say ditch the burger and go with the Nismo badge. Blacking out the radiator and supports is a good idea. Maybe paint the whole thing black depending on the color scheme for the rest of your max

As for the grill, I was being honest the truth hurts I guess sometimes. The factory grill cannot be replicated no where near as easy as the mesh. He should of kept it chrome or maybe a black chrome.. to see through that thing that much would make it better off removed completely. I just thought of an idea.. Take the factory grill and keep the border part, then add the mesh behind it, done. Ive always seen mesh grills of that sort on most american cars like the chrysler 300c or the escalade, navigators etc and they have the chrome flashy wheels as well. An analogy i could say is you seen the most beautiful woman to your eyes then she smiles and theres a 24k gold grill with diamonds.. That would throw off like wtf?! I agree with plasti-dip being cheap, but boring for me most certainly not. A mesh grill I could imagine it being boring then being that there isn't much to do other than me painting the border one color and the mesh another then adding things to it like a burger and a nismo to help make it look better.
And the comment about his child being able to do what I did, I'd say alot of people can do what I did with no effort, but not many have patience or nuts like I being one about the tiniest flaws would annoy me, so I made sure my lines were straight like a needle to the eye atleast. Im happy with my 5 dollar can of cheap matte.. I can take it off as I please and also you can get it any alot of other colors but not available in stores. Im guessing Id be offended if I paid for something that I could of made and even more possibly having the materials needed costing me nothing.

It's all good. I love how my own mesh grill turned out, but I've customized it a lot. Left the outer trim chrome (like the OEM grill is), and painted the middle mesh section color matched to my metallic slate car. Nismo cursive badge in the lower right corner. And to solve the issue of seeing through it, I attached one layer of black window screen immediately behind the mesh. Perfectly functional still, and so subtle you'd never notice it. And like I said, the second I put it on is when strangers in parking lots would walk up to me saying "what kind of car is that? I love that grill man..."
I know some people are just gonna like OEM more as their own personal style. But when that dude posted on your thread saying your grill looks good, and then you fire back with "I hate your grill" and "my car definitely looks better than yours", that just makes you arrogant. It ain't about how the truth hurts or something like that. I'm sure you can communicate your differences in taste without putting down someone else's ride.
Anyway, maybe I'm just joining in cuz I like the dude's mesh grill and have that style myself. Who knows. Rambling now though cuz it's past my bedtime. Lmao. Good night.

And now I must apologize as I didn't mean to start an argument. A bit of the old irish temper. What I should've said is the grille changed in what 2012? So I have the crappy honeycomb one. You guys have the slates one which definitely looks 100 times better.
So anyway the fact that you have a better canvas to start with makes it easier to change and have a better impact. Serpent thanks for the support. I second the guy who said the crimson black grille is nice. I'm not looking for the murdered look. I'm looking for a monochromatic look as opposed to matte finish or plasti look. That's all I was after. The plasti is just been done and I wanted to do something classy and more intensive. Unfortunately pictures don't do the paint justice on the grille I did. No knocking plasti that is not what I wanted as I have friends who like it. I'm just a little too old for that look.
I never said " i hate your grill" I said "I hate those types of grills" and when I said my grill was better I threw in the LOL and a winky face to show I was teasing.
How much was that grill I must ask? Also, theres a bunch of "how to make a mesh grill" videos on youtube. I wish I had a spare factory grill so I can cut and throw the mesh in. Im going to try to locate a factory grill and modify it but let me try editing a photo prior though. I have an idea that Im thinking of which might make the mesh look good.

Also to hide the center behind the grill you can also leave that part of the factory grill if you were to cut out the vents and it would be really neat to have a OEM grill that would make people say "where did you get that grill" also can cut out the honey comb in the brake ducts and add mesh behind it for another idea.
I did see the smiley wink. I know you were kidding. No worries. I am not finished with the look. I agree about seeing the radiator and the grilles behind the grilles in the lower section. I have 2 small kids so I had most of this done at a shop cause I don't have the time to do myself now. Agree about most of what you said. Looked at doing all those things you said but again hard to do with two small kids, wife, job, coaching lax, etc. all good. I would appreciate better ideas like you had than not my taste as that doesn't help me get it right. Know what I mean?
BIGIRISH I like the mesh grill except the being able to see through it part. I would have gone with a thicker mesh. I think if you installed something behind the grill it would look better and be more unique. Could be that just adding some additional mesh of some type behind the grill could improve the look quite a bit. Or you may be able to use your old grill in some manner to help hide the radiator. Your chance to get creative.

I wish I lived in NYC. I'm in MO or St. Louis to be exact. Or as you know it a fly over state lol. Like I stated I wish I could do more but it's so hard with life! I've owned 3 maxi total and this is the first one I decided to mod a bit. More aesthetic or cosmetic although would love to do cat back and a tune too! Thank you sincerely for the offer and I will hopefully get to try the black screen mesh behind and some other things and let you know how they turn out, since you have a excellent eye, wink wink! Anyway, it's just cool to read about all these people doing awesome stuff to a four door sedan and making it their own. I think that's what I love the most! The plasti grilles do look cool but I feel I wanted to try something different. Also I do like the Cadillac CTS V mesh look. It just looks menacing and badass to me.

That was his own custom job where he took the grille assembly off of the car, separated the OEM honeycomb from the grille surround itself and somehow attached the blacked-out mesh one to the grille surround to keep it kinda OEM looking with a different twist.
I agree, though, it was very nicely done. I'm not a big mesh grille guy myself either but that dude definitely a unique mod which looked really sharp.
Dudemaine I think I've seen that one too. Real nice. Would love to have saved myself all that money. So are you ready for my front end cost.... $300 for grilles, $200 for sandblast chrome and powder, $400 for professional painted to body color and another $100 for install... God now I really do feel like a moron looking at those costs!!! Oh well, I used to be able to change, plugs wires, alternators, starters, text but so afraid on newer cars plus I get 100k warranty on all of them. Never mind that I sold my '08 with 35K last year and sold my '04 with 80k in 2010. I just keep changing!!!

I don't suggest the fine mesh behind the grill... its going to get filthy, hard to clean, and possibly damaged from road debris.. just cleaning bugs off my radiator is a bit annoying.
