What's up fellas!? I have an issue here. My car is getting stuck in gear (commonly reverse) especially when I go from 1st to reverse multiple times. What happens is it will stay in reverse and I can not take it out. The clutch sticks to the floor and eventually the car will begin moving backwards with the clutch all the way down. The only way to keep the car from moving is for me to keep on the brake. The only way for me to get it out of gear is to turn the car off and pull the clutch towards me with my foot and it springs back up. In addition, if I stop the car in first gear with the clutch just past the catch point, in time it will begin to shake and vibrate like it's ready to engage and I'll have to push it down further. No matter how far I push it down, within seconds it will begin to engage, almost like the catch point is following the pedal to the floor. I don't know if it could be the master slave cylinder or what but it's getting on my nerves. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your time!

 

Does the clutch pedal feel like it normally does, or does it feel soft?

A soft feeling pedal is most often a result of a leak in the clutch line. Usually at the two rUber hoses near the slave cylinder.

The stainless steel clutch line will solve the problem. Do a search.

How old is your clutch? The clutch material could be on its last legs and the pressure plate, having to extend further out, cause these engagement problems.

When my clutch died, the symptoms were very similar to yours.

EDIT: my clutch pedal felt heavy, too.......yours doesn't seem to have that symptom.

 

If your slave doesn't have any visible leaks then your master is bad. The trans won't come out of gear running because the clutch isn't fully disengaging. The pedal is sticking to the floor because there isn't sufficient hydraulic pressure to push the pedal back up. And the car starts to move in reverse because what hydraulic pressure there is begins to bleed off.

 

Great explanation! Thanks guys! I'll start looking into masters. Is this a time sensitive thing where I should keep driving to a minimal so as to prevent other things from going wrong?

 

Driving like this could put extra wear on your syncros, but driving a car you can't shift is potentially dangerous. Imagine pulling onto the way highway and not being able to shift.

 

My dad was riding dirt bikes with a buddy when the dudes clutch cable broke. He shot out in front of an 18 wheeler and died.

 

Wow that's insane man I'm sorry to hear that. I should have mentioned I have no problem when just driving but it's when I'm parking and things is when it happens.
