Red thingy on positive battery cable

Can someone tell me what the red plastic thingy is on the positive battery cable? This is a GXE. I want to replace the whole cable and I'm not sure what to do with the red thing.

It provides a safe method to prevent shorts either by hood contact or battery falling over nothing else.

No no no no. The red "thing" is a connection for 12 volt power to your fuses. Remove it (or unplug the wires from it) and the car is "dead".

It's just a connector, chop it and connect to terminal of your choice.
