Trunk lid from a 95-96 on a 99?

So after considering options to replace my broken spoiler I have decided to just buy a junkyard trunk without holes.

I know that the taillights changed for the 97 model year, but if I switch my existing ones over, would a 95-96 trunk lid fit on my 99?

You will need '95-'96 tail lights and tail light harnesses if you'd like to put a '95-'96 trunk on.

The "fitting" of the trunk may work but IIRC there are some contours/lines in the earlier trunks that won't match to a '99.

why swap to the 95-96? When I did the 96 to 97 swap, I loved the 97 look a lot better.. no regrets.

I would stay with the 97-99 tails and trunk. They look better. Personally I don't like the look of the spoiler on our cars, which is why I will be swapping to a spoilerless trunk as soon as I find a color match at my JY

i think, " looks better" is subject to opinion. i love the trunk on my 95 the crease in it sets it apart and makes it unique

I've done both trucks and i believe the 95-96 trunk with the spoiler is the best design for the 4th gen.

And if you do get the 1995-96 outer tail light lamps so that they match and grab the harnesses for the tail lights.

I prefer the spoiler on my 99 with black housing taillights

Like the 99 trunk lid better...smooth no contour lines

I never noticed the crease before- I think I kind of like it! I didn't mind the look of the spoiler, but when I consider the potential hassle of fitting an aftermarket one or dealing with a used and probably brittle used one, and keeping it from leaking, etc, spoilerless seems the way to go. Plus, my bike rack didn't fit with the spoiler!

I was mostly just wondering about the 95-96 because at this stage, finding a trunk the right color anywhere near me I expect will be a challenge, and if I widen my search to include those earlier cars also I figure the probability of success increases.

Is there anywhere I can look to see what years these cars came in Forest Green DP0?

I believe the DP0 was used from 1995-1999 so you can find either type of trunk in this color

Here is a website that is helpful http://tatanko.boredmder.com/faq.html

Oh lord.. Forest green dp0 color.. Good luck finding those in the junkyards. I don't think there was many people who chose that color, but best of luck for you

Yeah, but those "contours/lines" are only in the trunk lid and tailights.

Ptatohed actually went backwards and installed a 95-96 trunk lid on his 99, feather'd out the contour/line just for the sake of having red/clears with red on the bottom. That's how bad he wanted that look....

'95 was DJ2.
'96-'99 was DP0.

Here was my aftermarket spoiler painted DPO

One positive aspect about that spoiler is the outer pedestals were bolted onto the trunk. The OEM spoiler's outer pedestals used to clip off their grommets at high speeds. One negative aspect about those trunk air spoilers is they collected rust on the trunk lid. Another is it made my lowered maxima look too high.

After ditching that aftermarket air spoiler one year later I painted the maxima black, debadged everything on the trunk, threw on this lip spoiler, and mounted the air spoiler's LED brake light onto the rear windshield.

I don't care for the contours on the 95-96 maxima but to each his own

I replaced my trunk lid with a white one from the junkyard. I work for Napa, and I get paint (and other things) dirt cheap. Did the whole thing myself and installed it last week.

It's not perfect, but I don't care.
