Rattling/Clinking Coming From Steering Wheel

Have you guys ever experienced a clinking/rattling from the steering wheel? Sounding like metal on metal tapping?

I actually figured out what it was, and it's a metal piece behind the airbag. It makes the noise by tapping on the bolt that holds the steering wheel down. My question is, what is that metal piece for? It's only held by 3 rubber contacts.

I had this exact issue and it got worse as the months went on. I disconnected the battery and pulled the airbag in the steering wheel and it was a small metal piece mounted with rubber feet that one side broke and was bouncing when the roads were rough. I did not want to pull the steering to take it off so I just cut the rubber where it was still attached and replaced the airbag and its been quiet ever since. It looks like some kind of harmonic or vibration device. It is not doing anything when broken and has not affected anything since being removed. Try that if you can't stand the noise. I know I had enough of it after a year lol

Lol, thanks! Yeah, I just ripped it out too. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't anything important.
