Accident, (pics) hit from behind and damage underneath
how do they even replace the under part of the car where the tire sits in? is it the whole frame pretty much? I was stopped and some kid rammed into the bag of my car really hard, destroyed the bumper and muffler and then noticed underneath was crushed and the spare was pushed all the way up into my trunk as you can see in the pic
thanks guys, actually hoping its a total loss, seems like a lot of damage and something that will never look and run right again, i can see future under car issues like tie rods, axles, etc...
I am surprised air bags did not go off, unless you did not mention it.
In skilful hands, this could be repaired. Looks like rear spare pan absorbed most of the impact. I guess they can cut it out and re-weld new piece. They would have to check the body for straightness. For your sake I hope its totalled, but could be too close to call.
Looks like a small car submarined under your bumper causing all that damage. A Saturn perhaps? Depending on if the unibody is straight will determine if its totalled.
well the adjuster from Statefarm looked today and said its borderline totaled, not sure how long it takes them though to calculate and figure this all out. The waiting game sucks!
yes it does, I'm going to call Statefarm late this afternoon just to see a timeframe, don't want to bother them yet, figured I would give them all morning at least

come up with plan B pronto. If they decide to total it, they will send you a check and provide few days of rental reimbursement, but beyond that you are SOL.
You will need to buy a new car, so make sure you know what you want and have a deal ready.
unfortunately they hold the cards on this. If the airbags went off, then you would be in the clear for sure. As is, you will get it repaired.
In CT we can take it to any shop we like. There might be a chance that if you take it to the body shop and their estimate is higher/over the 75% value, insurance may reconsider the claim.
Who did the estimate? Try getting a second opinion or just get the car repaired. It will be perfectly fine, so long as the unibody is straight.
State farm did the estimate and its my friends shop so he was there the whole time and said its a fair quote, he is going to start taking things apart to repair and see if there is more damage underneath it all
That can be repaired and you won't even be able to tell. I had a hydroplaning accident in my 03 SE that caused about $6k in damage. I had to get my whole rear axle and other components replaced. The shop removed everything, made sure it was straight and welded in the new parts. My car drove good, didn't track funny and I was very happy with the results.
Not sure in your jurisdiction, but her in my part of Canada, you have to claim any vehicle damage greater then $2000 when you go to sell the vehicle, which of course decreases the value of your car after repair.
I would assume that if it says recycled or reconditioned, then its OEM part removed from a wrecked car. If it says aftermarket, then you are get non-oem part.
For 2013 I would expect they use brand new oem parts and not take offs.
You would have to take it up with an insurance Co to see what they approve.
Remember that you have barely 3 yo car, so insist on new.
Every state and the insurance company that operates in that state are all a little different in what they approve. Some will approve OEM new parts and others will make you pay the difference in cost between OEM and Recon or third party. It is best to check on your options.
I wish there was a way to push it being totaled, I really feel after looking at this list that there are so many parts being replaced and so much of the car being torn apart that thins thing will have issues in the near future between look, performance, etc...

Exactly. I feel for you, man. I'd feel the exact same way. I really can't believe they didn't consider it a total loss with the way Maximas depreciate in value and the amount of damage done. Hopefully there's a "peeling of the onion" effect and it ends up being more than originally estimated and they total it for you.
You said it was in your friends shop. I am not suggesting anything illegal, but it is actually in his hands to possibly sway the ins co either way.
He just needs to find the damage that pushes the repair bill to where the car would be totalled.

This is true. They will get someone from insurance to give "the shop" a quote...from there they will re-write 1 or 2 more additional quotes saying they found this and this etc. They will either come and check it out (If the quote goes up by a lot) or they will fax you a check with proof the shop bought the parts.
My advice is do not take the first offer they give you if its totaled from the insurance company. Find 3 similar cars with their carfax and show them the sellers price (So they don't low ball you)
absolutely, been talking to a lot of people about it.
they all say the quote is definitely fair and there will be more damage once they start the repairs I'm sure. at least 1 or 2 more calls for more money needed
