Doing a gas tank swap Q/A!
Doing a gas tank swap Q/A!
I'll be doing a gas tank swap, sooner or later as there is a crack at the top half of my gas tank. I would like to know if there are any tips or tricks with the swap. Also, would I need to replace anything else while doing this? Thank you.
A few tips :
Start by running your tank pretty near empty - gas is heavy, and so is the tank
Disconnect your battery
Remove the rear seat, and open up the access panel, to pull out the fuel pump.
Lower the tank, and replace.
It helps to have 2 people, and a warm day. Oh, and some beer for after the job.

There are a bunch of pads on the top of the tank to prevent metal-to-metal contact between the tank and the body. The number of pads depends on the year of the car. There were 3 different tanks used, I'm guessing that the top surface has a different shape.
