Transmission shifts hard
Transmission shifts hard
I have a 95 Maxima that runs great but she's developed a transmission problem. When taking off from a dead stop the transmission will shift really hard between 1st & 2nd gear. All other gears shift smoothly and without issue. I've checked all the typical culprits like fluid level which is fine. I'm hoping someone can tell me what I might be dealing with and a possible solution. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
That's how mine started.. Now there's a leak from the case, 1-2-3 & 4 shifts are not like they used to be.. Kinda seems like it's got a mine of its own.. And it's a PITA to shift out of park when the cars not warmed up..
I'm currently searching for a whole new replacement..
Hope all works out for you!

I would also recommend a fluid drain and fill. I just changed the fluid on my 213k mile 96 maxima and it seems much happier. The fluid on the dipstick did not seem dirty at all, but when drained out after getting it nice and warm on a long drive, it drained out black. 5 quarts drained out. I used valvoline maxlife synthetic dex/merc. Came in gallon jugs at walmart, so it was a little cheaper than the castrol transmax. I think bot fluids are a good choice.
My 1-2 shift is still mostly noticeable, but 2-3 is silky and 3-4 is much more positive now, used to almost hesitate before shifting.
New fluid works wonders, and puts your mind at ease.
Especially if your a diehard manual trans guy who got stuck with an automatic.
(My maxima was $300 with 4 new tires on it and a nice pioneer head unit, I can't complain)
Took no longer than a regular oil change, just ,easier the fluid you drained, and replace with the same amount to get the level close to correct, and obviously check it again.
I didn't change the filter, dropping the pan takes a lot longer, and its cold working outside this time of year. I'm gonna change the fluid again in 1,000 miles or so, I may drop the pan and change the filter or screen in the spring.
