Special setting? No, there is a quarter sized button on the console, near the gear selector. Before you exit the car, push down on that button, and the engine will stop running. Nissan was nice enough to label the button "Engine Start Stop" This will allow you to turn the car off with you out of it.

Think of all the gas you're burning. Or look at the LED daytime running lights before you go to see if they're still on. idk, just a suggestion. Good luck lol. Usually the car beeps when I walk away with the keys in my pocket and the engine on.
Nael - No, the Maxima has never had any automatic engine shutoff in any of its 8 generations, no matter how far we may wander from the car. It will give us beeps if we exit the car with the engine still on, and more beeps as we put distance between the car and the intelligent key in our pocket.
I try very hard to not do this, because, if the engine is running, anyone can enter the car and drive off. As long as they keep fuel in the car and never turn the engine off, they can drive the car anywhere they want.
I can see instances where an automatic cutoff might be a good thing, but also see instances where an automatic cutoff would be a bad thing. I prefer no automatic cutoff, as that would mean restarting the car every time I get out and walk back to the roadway to get my mail. Such cutoff technology might also cause some interference with the remote engine start and remote engine cutoff we have in the 8th gen.

There are many times when I'm going to get cash out of an atm where I stop the car and remote start it so that the car is running but no one can pull off. I live in Florida where it's very hot so I like the ac to be on.
If you turn on the engine it will keep running with or without the key. Meaning you could drive it around without the key. (Most likely for safety reasons, if the battery dies in your remote while driving.) On the other hand if you use the remote to start the car will turn off after 15 mins, or if you try to take off without the key it will turn off because when you push the start/stop button you must have a key.
I don't think that's correct at all. The immobilizer should kick in, so the car could probably be driven a couple hundred feet and then zonk out. It's why it'll yell that the key isn't in the vehicle.
I have a 2016, and it will beep at you that the key isn't there, but you can still drive it. My sister was trying out the car when I first got it, and I went inside not knowing the key was still in my pocket. She was able to drive it about a mile or two away, and came back without the key with no problem.
Just curious, have you tested this? Because my understanding is that lightonthehill is correct. I would be exceptionally pleased if what you're saying is true.

My question was about the car already running and pulling off. I understand the limitation to remote start which is why I said that I stop the car and then remote start it after I get out. But it would've been great to keep it running as opposed to stopping and then remote starting which wastes more gas.
I tested my 09. Started it manually (I do not have any remote start), got out of it with the key, locked the doors, and walked to the mail box 200 yards away. Got back and the car was still running. Unlocked the doors and put it back in the garage. So two things - one if you leave your car running and get out make sure its locked or anyone can drive it off. Two, the car does not have any immobilizer that will shut it down, if the car and the key reach a certain distance from each other.
the car will be driveable, even if the key is outside and away, once started.
is it not safe that it will shut off if the key becomes far from the vehicle?
i think of it as if the battery would run out while you're driving 70mph...
i would not want it to turn off.
but if it is on park and parking brake applied, i think it should turn off.
maybe..

The imbeciles at Honda/Acura disabled this feature on current-gen vehicles (you can technically lock it with the physical key, but it's not all four doors and is kind of nonsense).
