I'm back with a 2002 GLE..alternator issue...

After a long departure, I'm back and have purchased a a 2002 GLE with what appears to be a bad alternator. I bought it as is, from the original owner (a friend) who just bought his wife a brand new Camry. He came home a month ago and the car was smoking under the hood, so he disconnected the battery. This car has been well serviced, has brand new tires, struts and an aftermarket bluetooth stereo, so I figured what the heck. I looked at it while the battery was connected and it appeared that the alternator has a short, as smoke was coming from inside it. I made an offer and now the car is mine. Picking up an alternator today or tomorrow and going from there, looks like a pia to replace. After disconnecting it, it cranked up and ran fine, after a little ticking from sitting so long. After a minute it was very quiet and smooth. He maintained the car well, so we'll see. This will be a long distance daily on occasion and my oldest daughter's car.

It's cool seeing OG members come back. Dat 5th gen charm

Get a good quality alternator and check over your wiring to make sure nothing was fried.

How many miles?

All is good, it was checked when the new alternator was installed.
