Has Anyone done a complete stereo and speaker swap -Bose?
Has anyone done a complete stereo system swap on Bose system equipped SR? I’m curious because this is going to be my winter project and I’m trying to plan everything out. I’m not sure if I should replace every single speaker in the car or just do the usual one set of componnknets in the front, a set in the rear and sub. Thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.
Bose replacement with aftermarket stereo - Platinum
I replaced the Bose system in my 16 Platinum a year ago.
I removed ALL of the Bose components as they don't cooperate with after market solutions due to Bose design for amplification.
2 10-inch subs and their box fit nicely into my trunk, with room for my golf clubs and misc remaining. New rear deck speakers, mids in the doors and tweets in the dash hole. Excellent power amplifier, and the most important factor, a Fosgate (choose your own favorite) 3Sixty.3 Digital Signal Processor that let me zero out the head unit signal delivery and retune the sound curve to drive those new components to the edge!
The amp and DSP are mounted on the back of the fold-down rear passenger seat, with modules for tuning the DSP bass delivery in the console.
You will need to hook into a key-driven switched power line to keep the battery alive.
The sound is AMAZING, and the car feels like a moving radio station!
I didn't go for LOUD and BASS that rattles the windows, although it surely will do that on demand. But when I put on Bruno Mars, Supertramp, or even AC/DC, the definition and low-to-high transitions are infinitely superior to anything Bose ever dreamed of...
For the record, I did NOT change out the head unit as that level of interference with the functionality of the car was not my goal... everything still works across the board, it just sounds better.
Good luck!

I did Focal component speakers front and rear, a DSP (a must), amp and a decent Sub. Would love an after market head unit that keeps the functions on the dash display. If I had it to do over again, I would have spent even more on the front component speakers and just put cheaper coax speakers in the rear deck.
