That Familiar cringe worthy Crunch

of my wheels rubbing the curb. I barely, I mean barely touch the curb and it's metal to concrete.
Now 3 out of 4 wheels have curb rash.
I can't catch a break. Stock rims for a 2016 S. There is no margin for error with this car...one of my few pet peeves aside from the visibility factor

I feel your pain, but not as much pain as you experienced. I have very slightly scrubbed the same wheel twice in the same exact spot. Mine is minor (1/2" long) and just on surface. First scrape I wet-sanded out almost entirely then shot it with clear coat to seal it. Lucked out on that one! Two weeks later I was backing out of a spot (in a different state) next to parking curb and hit the same _amn wheel. I thought, "oh great, now two fugly marks!"...Funny thing is the second scuff was EXACTLY over the first repaired scuff; no wider, no longer. One-in-a-million. Hate these tires. Will get tires with rim protection when these Conti's wear out. In the meantime I have turned very **** when parking next to curbs. I am 71 years young and having owned many cars and honestly, this is the first car that I've ever scrubbed my rims, at least my precious aluminum ones. I believe it is caused by 1) Tire rubber flush with rims, and 2) This car shape is just tough to judge where in the _ell you are compared to parking lines, curbs, brick walls, and what have you. You can read all about parking problems elsewhere on this site.

Idea: Have you seen those vinyl trim rings (rim savers) you can have installed by your local tire guy? Looks promising but one hit and that ring is gone. They are pricey but some installations look way cool depending on the color combo. I've included, below, a site showing less expensive glue-on version. Not to my liking, as I wonder what oil, road tar residue, and wheel dressing goop might do to the adhesion properties of the stick-on backing.

Yes, this is situation I have been concerned with from day one, and I never had this problem with any other car in the almost seventy years I have been driving. I had three wheels repaired last month on my 2016 Platinum for $375. They look as good as new, but that is a lot of money.

Fortunately, our Platinum has the 'birds eye view' system, which helps a lot.

My new solution is simple. My wife and I are always in the car together. When it comes time to park, the one of us that is not driving gets out and carefully guides the driver into the parking space without curbing the wheels. If it is raining, we simply do not park near a curb. That is easy for us, as, both being retired, we always have the option of staying home.

I understand Michelin has a nice summer tire with a rubber rib on the sidewall just above where the tire sits on the rim that gives some protection, but I'm not sure which exact tire that is.

Michelin Pilot Sport AS/3+ have a 1/4 inch thick rib on the sidewall that extends out from the edge of the rim. That is what I run on my 7th gen.

yeah I'm thinking the curb feeler option may be too late...I'm talking sharp turns at drive thrus, back drive thrus, anytime there is a curb now I have to be worried.
The S doesn't have the 360 birds-eye...I was given this wheel protection plan from the dealer but every time I've called they can't recommend somewhere to get them repaired and the dealer doesn't have any company that comes out and does wheel repair. At least that was 2 years ago--maybe it's changed...

Thanks Richard66. Now I know what my next set of tires will be. So you have them on your 7th gen! My wife and I were behind several 7th gen Maximas during our shopping wanderings today, and thought back to our beautiful 7th gen 2009 Premium that gave us not a whisper of trouble in SEVEN YEARS. Best car I ever owned. I can only hope my 2016 Platinum serves me nearly as well.

I've had my silver 2009 Sport now going on 8 years now without any problems. Only one recall that fixed the steering lock mechanism, otherwise only time it was at the dealership was routine maintenance. I agree this is the best car I ever owned. Good luck to you with your new Platinum.

It happens from 3-75 MPH--stops at idle. Very annoying...I've pushed and prodded everywhere and can't isolate the source...
