Another Brake and Battery Lights On Problem

This morning when i turned on my 95 maxima. All lights went on as usual, however the brake and battery lights remained on, but stangely enough the car was running fine. I know a lot of people reported stale, stop problem due to the charging issue, but mine appeared to be normal. The scangauge reported 14.9v-15v on charging voltage, it is higher than usual, but not sure it is a problem. Any advice?

The trouble lights you describe are typically indicative of an alternator failure.

Your apparent over-charging issue supports that.

When your voltage was tested, the system was under full load, right?

I second what Tb said!

IIRC, the alternators in our Maximas should top out at 14.2 volts. And maybe have a tolerance of 2%. That means 14.5 tops.

Pushing 15 means your voltage regulator (incorporated into your alternator) is failing!

Thanks guys. Looks like I am going to put a new alternator in this weekend. I still have the original alternator, after 180k and 25 years, I really should not complain.

Anyway before I am heading to the the advance auto store, is there anything else obvious other than belt and fuses that I should be checking? Is there any reply for our alternator?

^^^^ Alternator is toast. I've been there and bought the postcard. Also, check for a shorted battery. They seem to go together.

Just to report back, I picked up a alternator from advance auto and replaced the old one over the weekend. All is good. Thanks for everyone's support.
