Top Speed, What Gives

I redlined 5th today and my speedo was like at where 147ish would be. I thought redlining 5th was 160? Maybe the speedo was just showing a lot of error?

5th gear goes to 157 MPH, so if you redlined you were actually going 157 MPH. Unless your rim/tire combo is a different size then stock, then your gearing would be messed up.

Just a question here...and I am not sure of the answer. I know a lot of cars are actually "drag limited" versus power limited on top speed. Can a Maxima actually push 157, or would aerodynamic forces limit the speed?

yes...a lot of cars are "drag limited" which in essence IS power limited. BUT, Brian has a Supercharger....and that changes the game completely.

The other VERY rare condition is cars that a gear limited, which means they can't go faster than redline in their highest gear...this usually means the trans is not geared well for the power that the engine puts out.

I had my gauges out of my car last week..and was playing around with them....I moved the speedo needle ALL the way around past 140...and the needle physically STOPS at about 147-148mph...it won't MOVE any further....so theres your answer

Like I told the guys over at ClubSi, my "God's Chariot" Maxima does 235mph and that was racing one of those rare 900hp twin turbo Vipers. I got him by 6 cars.

......why does everyone think I'm lying

Don't hate on the RSM. At least our CEL isn't on because of a snipped wire.

Did you know if you tweak the RSM a bit, the km/h would be in the 500 range?

this was on my 1st gen RSM(got a 2nd gen now). only got up to 148 in the vid before we hit the 15 second limit on the digicam. but we got it up to 153mph later, here's a pic of that:

by the way kev, the RSM is adjusted to compensate for my 245/45/16 tires.

Yeah, I had to adjust for the 235/45/17 since mine was 225/50/17.

The new one also has a G-meter to measure your g's when you turn and has an rpm activated switch to control any number of things (preset boost, shift light etc etc) I havent gotten the new one so im not sure of every one of its features.
