Ram Air for intake: Good or Bad?
Ram Air for intake: Good or Bad?
I have a custom scoop under my fender that is attatched to a hose that brings air into my engine bay under my filter. The scoop is VERY effective...maybe too much because, upon testing, the air coming in comes in at a high velocity. So I was thinking about attaching it directly to my cone filter to get the "ram air" affect on non rainy days. In theory, it sounds great especially when it's 10 degrees F outside right now. But what are the possible drawbacks of forcing air into the intake? Will it cause more turbulance in the airflow? Huh? Am I an indiot because I don't know the answer?
There are no bad effects of forcing air into the intake. Don't worry about turbulence because the design of the Maxima's intake runners should smooth it out a little. However, don't expect supercharger like performance either. Also, I wouldn't worry too much about the rain either, because it takes a lot to move water through the intake piping.
