Has anyone here replaced the rear power shade in their car? Mine has been having issues for awhile and just recently it refused to raise so I forced the issue and now it makes a clanking noise and won't go down or up under its own power. I'll find one and do the job myself, just want to know how hard a job it is.

Thanks for the schematic. Would you believe that the OEM parts for a 10 yr old car are still crazy expensive. They range in price from $392 to $945 dollars. I'm going to roll the dice and get a used one off eBay for $90.

 

I can certainly believe the prices are still high. Let us know how the used one works out (like they say, "ya pays your money..ya takes your chances") I may be mistaken but I believe User1 seems to have a green thumb sourcing from ebay (he found a mirror for me that worked great for about 1/4a the price of OEM) Maybe he will join in with the great source of supply!

 

Good news, I was finally able to buy an online version of the Chilton's guide for my year Maxima, ($28.46 for one yr). The instructions are vague, the pictures suck, and it doesn't give any specific bolt sizes, but I was able to fill in the blanks and get the rear seat and parcel shelf out. After over 3hrs I had the new sunshade in and thank goodness it works. The old one was dated 9 Dec 2009 and the new one is 5 May 2014.

I sprayed all the moving parts with WD40 and put it in the car. I got frustrated because I lost my 10mm ratcheting box wrench somewhere in the back end of the car and can't find it, even though I removed all the panels in the trunk. I'm going to take the next couple of days to slowly put the car back together before we leave on vacation this Thu.

If anyone needs to replace their sunshade, it's a fairly easy job once you figure out how to remove the rear seat. I paid $92 dollars for a used shade whereas they still cost over $350 or more if you buy them from the dealer.
