The End of an Era

After having owned/leased 11 Maxima's since 1987, it was with mixed feelings that I said goodbye to my '18 Platinum recently. Numerous factors led up to this decision not the least of which was that I retired at the end of last year and relocated to South Carolina. Now having a fixed income, I have been looking to save money wherever I could. One area that I noticed was to eliminate trash/recycling expenses by doing this myself. In order to do so, I needed a vehicle with more cargo space. In addition, the wife and I rarely travel more than 10 miles each day and do very little highway driving. Therefore I didn't need the power that the Max provided. Finally, I wanted to have more "visibility" when driving; the Max is pretty low to the ground and had limited vision when behind trucks or SUV's. After a couple of disappointing dealings with a local dealer, trying to get a used Pathfinder or Murano (stories for another time) I ended up with a Rogue. Although I will miss my Max dreadfully, I am pleasantly pleased with all the bells and whistles that are in the Rogue.

I have enjoyed my time on this site and plan to continue to monitor it. I proudly showed my cars over the years and appreciated all of the feedback that friends and family provided. The Maxima provided many thrills and years of fun driving for me. My hope is that it will continue to do so for all of you folks.

Congrats on your retirement and on the Rogue! A couple quick questions about the Rogue: Do you find it has sufficient power for you to enjoy driving it after all those years of driving a Maxima? Also, is it true that the Rogue does not have the Homelink buttons on the rearview mirror (for garage opener)? I heard that might be the case on a Rogue Platinum and couldn't believe it.

Have fun in retirement brother. Funny I'm 3 years away from retirement and I just bought a 2020 Maxima SL last December, my first. So I plan on enjoying this car well into my retirement . Really cool you had all those Maxima's!

The Rogue definitely doesn't have the gusto that the Max had. But as mentioned, we are doing mostly local driving which does not call for the extra acceleration. The Rogue does have the homelink.

Does the homelink work without the keyfob present or nearby? It seems Nissan likes to give the homelink retained power so that it always works. So, if a bad guy smashes your window and presses the homelink button, he just opened your garage and stole all your 4hit. On other cars such as Audi's, the key has to be in the ignition (or keyfob present) to energize homelink; this is the way it should be in all cars.

I agree...but the same thing applies to your remote for your opener. ..... If you leave it on your visor, like 99% of owners.

Yup, and for that reason, you won't find any garage door openers clipped to the visor on any of my cars. And I don't use the homelink feature for reasons described above.

All my babies are garaged. Some of the older cars (not in sig) unfortunately have to be parked outside though. Next home improvements will be an alligator moat around the property and an electrified wrought iron fence activated at night only. Also considering a tower with a sniper perched at the top, but that may be going too far and not sure how my neighbors will feel about it considering I live in a tract home community.

I will have to check the homelink/FOB situation.

I just tried the homelink on my 7th gen and with no fob even close to the car the homelink opened the garage door. The car has been setting for over a week so homelink must have direct power all the time. This is not good for those of you that have to park outside.

Thanks for testing this and reporting the results. Nissan needs to get with the times and correct this on future vehicles.
