Drove with AGX's set on full stiff (4/8) settings today...

So I decided to crank up the settings on my KYB AGX struts today to see what the fully stiff settings are all about. First of all the dial that adjusts the settings was facing INWARDS towards the wheel and I couldn't see anything ... I could see the dial from a side-view and reach to turn it, but couldn't see the #s, the wheel and brakes were in the way. So I had to take off both my rear wheels (just for the first time because now I know). So I put the rears at 8, fronts at 4 and went for a test drive. Very stiff obviously, but the ride wasn't as rough as I expected it to be at those settings, probably because I still have the stock SE springs. The ride is VERY acceptable, and handling much better. I didn't get to drive on the highway much, but just driving around the steering felt much more responsive than it was at the previous settings (2/4). So some of you guys out there might wanna try it if you haven't already. Tomorrow I'm gonna try 1 all the around just to see how the smoothest setting feels like.

P.S. the guys who have these struts, to adjust the rears, you don't have to push the dial in or turn it in a certain direction right? because it turns in either direction and clicks on each setting, so I just turned it to whatever I wanted without worrying about the direction or pushing it in. Let me know.

I think I could crack my frame on a bump if I went to that setting because of my GCs. I think the fact that you have soft springs allows you to go firmer.

Mine are still sitting in my room....if I remember correctly, there's an arrow type indicator just off the adjustment **** that points to the current setting.

theblue, yeah with springs it would be too stiff and you probably would crack your frame or something...maybe blow a shock if you went over a big pothole/bump. I know I'm not gonna have them on these settings once I get my H&R's.

Yup...my question was do you HAVE TO turn it clockwise or is it ok if you turn it counter-clockwise too? and does it have to be pushed in/pulled out while being turned (like the front ones have to be pushed in).

Is it possible to use the struts with my existing GLE shocks?

I don't know what you mean by that . Struts/shocks are the same thing, so you would replace the struts on your GLE with these, not use them with your current ones. If you meant SPRINGS then yes you can use them with your current springs.

I put my dials facing inward. I can reach around the wheel and adjust the rear with no problems. I usually run 2 all the way around. forsHo, try that on your stock springs. It gives a really nice ride with great handling.

does it matter which way the rear shock dials face? because the instructions said to put them facing outwards.. but now I realize this makes them harder to adjust because the wheel obstructs them, it would probably be easier if they were facing inwards..

Sorry about that, I to say I wanted to keep my stock springs. But, if I wanted that lowered look I'd better switch out the spring. To be honest, I just don't get suspension parts thing. I know what they all look like, but not what each part does. I'd appreciate a little dontated education on what springs, shocks, struts and coilover do.

adjusted mine: 4 front and 7 rear

nice and firm--oh yeah i'm on stock springs, so i bounce a little.

i adjusted the rears w/o taking the tires off. i used a mirror to see the setting. still it was a pain to adjust the rears...

Just do a search man, all those things have been discussed to death on this site. And also search places other than this site, like on yahoo and stuff, go to other racing sites. You can learn a lot.

I have been in a car once that had GC's and man is it still. I agree that you would have done some dmage or had to have your back ralined from it.

Yes it matters which way you turn it. Go up with the numbers to turn them up and down with the numbers to turn them down. Face them the way it says.
