Quick 8 Clutch
Quick 8 Clutch
I was just searching around the internet for the best price on an ACT clutch, and I came across a Quick 8 Pro Clutch. I've never seen anything posted about this in this forum, so I'm not sure if anyone has tried it, but has anybody even heard of this clutch?
Sounds like trouble to me. Anything too strong and you will rip apart your tranny. Go for the ACT street clutch, there are many people running that unit that love it. It handles good power.
I can't conceive why you would need anything more than the ACT street. I don't know anything about Quick 8 and that is probably a bad thing. I CAN tell you the ACT is a good clutch once it is properly worn in. I likes alot...
I went ahead and ordered the ACT street model, but I was just curious about the Quick 8. It was only like 270 or something, but I didn't feel like being the first to try a potentially super-grabby clutch. As far as ruining your transmission, my 5 speed is going in for a rebuild later this morning, along with VTC replacement (talk about breaking the bank), but I can't wait to see what a rebuilt tranny/new VTC's/ACT clutch will do for the feel of my car. Right now it sounds just short of terrible, with a grinding coming from the tranny and ticking all the time.
Be prepared for some rough take-offs during your clutch break-in time and until you get used to the feel. It takes some getting used to in city traffic... likes to chatter and grabs kinda hard, not to mention the workout. It's like doing leg presses until you get used to it. But you will, and I think you will find it to be a superior clutch. Good luck with it!
everything they said, and be ready for a SUPER NOTCHY tranny for about 6 months. I had my tranny rebuilt (and installed ACT street disc) in August, and it's been nothing but great. it grabbed really hard the first few thousand miles but smoothed out about november... now it feels almost like the stock clutch as far as driveability, but if I dump the clutch, it still grabs like it should.
it's torn apart a set of engine mounts too.
but the big thing I'm posting about is the tranny. when you get it back, expect it to be REALLY notchy and you'll have to jam it into gear for a while... it's weird.. but basically feels like a brand new, tight clearance tranny.
After about 4k miles, I dumped the fluid and put in new quality goo.. made a difference, but still very notchy..
ran that for about 6k miles, and then I drained it again and refilled with Mobil 1 SAE50 full synthetic motor oil.. shifts like a dream now.
still notchy, but just enough so that you know when it's in gear and not.

Well I'm excited to get the car back, but the clutch and tranny won't be fixed until later next week. I ordered the ACT from www.eatricezone.com, and it was out of stock and won't ship until either this Friday or the following Monday. My mechanic told me that he wouldn't charge anything extra to put the clutch in if he's got the transmission off the car, since it's a simple job at that point. I figured letting him install the clutch would be a better idea, since I don't have to waste a Saturday putting it and he'll have the tranny off anyway.
