emergency brakes and tranny....

Hello I came across a problem tonight, actually its a recurring problem...my ebrake keeps getting stuck. i have about 6 inches of play with it before it starts working, and when it does work its very weak. Any particular reason why this would happen? actually it happens often, i have no other choice but to drive with the ebrake stuck and to have it wear away whatever brakes i have. thats my first problem. my second problem...i usually park with my car in gear (96 max se 5-spd), and now on the hill i usually park on....my car rolls...IN GEAR. does that mean i have another problem with the tranny as well? can anyone help me?

You may have to tighten your handbrake cable. You lift the lever and there is play...you release it, but the handbrake is still actuated. It definately sounds like a cable problem. Also, when you park your car, I believe on an incline or flat area you put it in first gear, and on decline you put it in reverse. What gears are you putting it in? I've noticed my car won't hold on a small hill in 3rd but will in 1st.

well, today i tried in 1st and second gear on a decline, front of the car pointed downhill.....this has never happened before...I will try the reverse gear. The nut you are talking about i have tightened to the max already.....but even then that wouldn't help the e-brake freezing in the "on" position for one wheel.....

i am experiencing a similar problem where my passenger side brake sticks in cold weather. Which side is sticking for you. Does yours also happen in the cold?

YES ONLY IN THE COLD, and its the same side as well, passenger. There must be some fix for this, as it looks like ths "could" be a more than just an isolated problem. Anyone that lives in the cold weather know of a possible fix??? TIA
